Digital photo, George L Coop, Swing door train at Mont Albert railway station c 1957, c1957
... A black & white photo of a swing door train destined... collections contributing to this database. A black & white photo ...Trains with electric swing doors were often referred to as "dog boxes" or "doggies". They were manufactured at the Newport Workshops for the Victorian Railways. Swing Door cars had outward-opening doors. They were reasonably narrow, to ensure that two passing trains would not foul each other if doors were accidentally left open. The donor George Lister Coop was about 20 years of age when he took this photo. It is one of a small series of photos donated by him that relate to Mont Albert and Surrey Hills stations. He has always had an interest in railways and there are other examples of his documentation of railway history in other collections contributing to this database. ... Collection. .1) to .4) - Photo, black & white, 1988, WILD OR-1... Collection. .1) to .4) - Photo, black & white, 1988, WILD OR-1 ...This collection of four photos was most likely taken at Lithographic Squadron, Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo in 1988. Orthophoto mapping provided the Survey Corps with the capability to produce map products quickly in the event of a crisis. These are four photographs of equipment used by the Army Survey Regiment to produce orthophotomaps. The OR1 orthophoto projector and workstation was introduced in the mid-1980s. It was the second-generation equipment used to orthorectify colour and monochrome film aerial photography, replacing the system introduced in 1973. Orthorectification is the process of removing geometric distortions and scale errors/variations from images. Images have tilt and relief distortions that make it difficult to compare accurately a map and an image of the same geographic area. Once an image is orthorectified, features on the image are shown in their planimetric locations. These four photographs of orthorectification equipment in operation were taken at the Army Survey Regiment at Fortuna, Bendigo, 1988. The photographs were on 35mm negative film and were scanned at 96 dpi. They are part of the Army Survey Regiment’s Collection. .1) to .4) - Photo, black & white, 1988, WILD OR-1 Orthorectification Workstation, SPR Carmel (Butler) Fauth. No personnel are identifiedroyal australian survey corps, rasvy, army survey regiment, army svy regt, fortuna, asr, litho -

... Survey Regiment’s Collection. .1) and .2) - Photo, black & white... Collection. .1) and .2) - Photo, black & white, c1989, SSGT Kevin ...These two photos were most likely taken in the volleyball court area of the Army Survey Regiment, part of the grounds of Fortuna, Bendigo, in c1989. The occasion was probably to farewell SSGT Kevin Boehm, who was a cartographic draughtsman, after 22 years of service in the ADF. It is likely Bendigo Toyota was approached to loan their miniature Toyota Tarago; a vehicle used for marketing purposes. The novelty of this quirky “drive past” event was that Kev was well known as a part-time car salesman and often took the opportunity of assisting new staff in buying a car. Kev was a qualified pilot and often took time on weekends to take unit staff and their families on recreational flights over Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga. His other claim to fame was he was “charge happy”, a tendency to prefer charges against offending soldiers rather than offer them a warning. These two photos were most likely taken in the volleyball court area of the Army Survey Regiment, part of the grounds of Fortuna, Bendigo, in c1989. The Fortuna Lions competed in the Puckapunyal Area Football Association for several years from 1978 to 1984 and in 1983, fielded a great team it managed to reach the Grand Final. Held at the neutral ground at Kings Park, Seymour, the match was an incredibly exciting and bruising contest played in damp conditions and ended in a draw. Dave Lawler’s spectacular mark was a highlight. Due to heavy rain during the following week, the Grand Final replay was held the following week in even heavier conditions. The Fortuna Lions prevailed in the replay with an emphatic victory. The team’s leaders were Eddie Jacobs (coach), Rhys De Laine (captain), Greg Else (vice-captain), and Ken Slater (manager). ... Collection. .1) - Photo, black & white, 1990. CPL Neale ‘Tex’ Houston...) - Photo, black & white, 1990. CPL Neale ‘Tex’ Houston ...These 35 photographs were taken at an Army Survey Regiment Open Day at Fortuna Villa, Bendigo on the 24th of February 1990. This occasion was one of several events held to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Royal Australian Survey Corps. Although historical tours of Fortuna occurred on a regular basis, this was the first technical open day since 1972. The Royal Australian Survey Corps recognised that an Open Day was the best way for the local community in Bendigo to gain an insight into the unit’s important role as Defence’s map production agency, its technical equipment, and its economic importance to Bendigo. It also gave them an opportunity to tour through historic Fortuna Villa. This occasion is covered in more detail in page 143 of Valerie Lovejoy’s book 'Mapmakers of Fortuna – A history of the Army Survey Regiment’ ISBN: 0-646-42120-4. Refer to items 6434.27P and 6436.18P for more photos of the Open Day taken inside Fortuna, the garden areas and production areas of Lithographic Squadron. I put the photo in black a nd white ...Quat Quatta, Ropponlea, Lion statue on porchblack and white photograph, mounted, original, good conditionOn Back: The reason why I chose to take this photo is because Ripponlea has an historical background and this building is very old. I put the photo in black a nd white to symbolise this. As you can see in the photo there is a lion that shows royalty and that we are a strong community. Also, the plants in the photo are well cared for which shows our communities respone for nature. By Bailey Troeth
