This photograph is of Main Street Stawell looking East around c 1920's. The photo was taken from just below Main & Wimmera Street corner. On the left side is the two story Post Office building. The photograph shows the telegraph poles in the street. Also Copley Post Office Hotel 1912- 22 and other business. On the road are a few people one pushing a trolly, one on a bike and two people in a horse drawn cart. Gustav Mahnke's Bakery is on right.Two Black & White photographs depicting the main street in Stawell's commercial business area in c 1920's. The view shows some two story buildings, shops with verandah's. One horse drawn vehicle, a person on a bike and a few people in the street. Given the shadows, it is possibly ...The photo shows a cable tram set, trailer 357, at the Flinders St terminus in Elizabeth St. The tram has the return destination of North Melbourne. Note that the destination signage is both black on white letters and white on black letters. The grip or dummy is well loaded with passengers queing to board the trailer. Possibly a warm day given the ladies clothing. In the background are many pedestrians crossing the road to the station. On the corner is a Tea Rooms shop. Bill Stratton with butchers basket Paddy Todd with double bass horn Diddy Powell with tenor horn\ Jack Simper with cornet Mr Trengrove drum major Jimmy Suttie cornet George Bennett tenor horn W Todd bandmaster and cornet George Preston euphonium onlookers Gordon Bennett, Norman Nelson, Possum Dawe. As the boys were all in dark suits I think the occasion would have been at [Ernie] Ching's funeral. He died with Peron [peritonitis]. He was 21 and a good bandsman. The band played 'Lead kindly light, The Dead March from Saul, very Sad' ". Note: - This information was once written on a piece of paper attached to the photograph. This slip of paper is no longer affixed to back of photograph. There is a copy of this photograph in the Todd family file, with some names listed. If this photograph was taken on the day of Ernie Ching's funeral, it dates the photograph to 1908.
