The Haddon Great Extended GMC was formed sometime in the 1870s for the purpose of mining 270 acres of land lying to the south-west of the Racecourse Company (who at that stage had a shaft at the depth of 86 feet)A printed piece of paper with a prospectus on the left and a plan on the right. Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. The images held within the National Vietnam Veterans Museum make up the Gibbons Collection. A black and white photograph of fortifications and a lookout post at the 'Horseshoe Feature' . The Diggers in the lower right-hand corner of the photograph are clearing an area between a large rock crevice to construct their fortified bunker. The 'Horseshoe Feature' was regularly mortared and rocketed by the NVA/VietCong. Many of the early sewing machines were powered by a treadle mechanism. The treadle was operated by pressing down on it with a foot, or both feet, to cause a rocking movement. This object was originally made for and affixed to a memorial rock at Beersheba Barracks Sisley Avenue Wangaratta. When 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles departed Beersheba Barracks, the panel was removed with the intention of placing it in another location.
