Yields information about the style and printing of tickets used in Ballarat and Bendigo tramways and how they were presented.Two Blocks, each with four remaining tickets - orange ink on off white paper, denomination 3d, numbered V526396 - 99 and A648196 - 99, headed State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Provincial Tramways. Originally a block of 200 tickets been stapled onto a cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a off white coloured or plain cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. The ticket price is in orange ink while the ticket number itself is in black ink. On rear in orange ink is a diagonal criss cross or tartan pattern. 3987.1 - has a white cardboard back, slightly shorter than the ticket with ruling on one side. 3987.2 - has a brown / grey cardboard back. Photocopies of documents from the Public Records Office files, Ballarat of letters concerning the construction of the horse tramway vehicles in Ballarat. Provided by Colin Homes. .1 - dated 1/2/1889 to G. Perry Town Clerk Ballarat, from Constable Hanigan, reporting on a conversation with Mr. Moore, confirmed by Constable Hickey about the capacity of the tramcars and the need for licenses for them and the drivers and conductors. Moore replied that the roads belonged to him? and that he could tell Perry to go to hell. .2 - Letter or note, advising Mr. Perry, from Hanigan as cab inspector, that 15 of the cars would accommodate 40 people, 18 inside, 20 outside + 2 conductors and that two would accommodate 46 adults, 20 inside, 24 on top and 2 conductors. Yields information about the considerations of State Cabinet of a proposal by the SEC to close a Bendigo tram line and thoughts to move the tramways from the SEC to MMTB Management.Newspaper clipping from the Ballarat Courier - 9/6/1953, titled "Cabinet stops tram move" reporting that state cabinet had vetoed the SEC's proposal to cease tram operations between Charing Cross and Golden Square from July 6. Quotes the Acting Premier Mr. Garvin. Follows a mass meeting of tramway employees the previous Sunday. Item notes that the Govt was planning to re-organise the SEC and the trams are likely to come under the control of the MMTB, or the Transport Board. Demonstrates how ESCo managed Weekly tickets during the late 1920's and yields information about the way the system was arranged. The source of the ticket, NSW tramways is significant in that it was obtained by them as a sample. Morning and Evening Weekly Ticket, price 1/3, printed for Week 1, that is not available for Sundays or Holidays. Ticket printed on light weight card, in two colours, light red and light green, numbered 0004 available only between Grant St (Mt Pleasant) and Doveton St. Notes the conditions of use, the time available for which the ticket may be used and where. Printed by J.J. Miller, Melbourne. In the bottom right hand corner has a perforated triangular section which could be removed. Has the words "P.M. Friday" printed on it. A double deck horse drawn tram with single saloon. drop ends, stairs, longitudinal seats, sliding doors, wheels of cast iron, hand brakes - see notes. Originally built by Duncan & Fraser in 1887. Rebuilt by BTPS 1991. From the BTM Fleet page on the website: Built in 1887 by Duncan and Fraser for the Ballaarat Tramway Company Ltd. as a double-decked horse tramcar. One of eight cars which ran as trailers behind electric trams at times of heavy patronage, after takeover and conversion of the horse lines by the Electric Supply Company of Victoria Ltd. in 1905. Withdrawn in the late 1920's when the body shell became a residential outbuilding locally, until retrieved in 1985. 'Bendigo, 1857. Bank of Victoria, View St., in foreground. '23' was afterwards Grant's Confectionery shop next 'Abbot's New Times.' The Victoria Hotel became the National Bank of Australasia. The Colonial Bank of Australia is next to the left. 'Edmondson's and the building next Colonial. Bank., became the Bendigo Arcade. The 2 story building to right of the Victoria Hotel became the Stock Exchange as auction room of Shadrach E.R.Jones who was also a Doctor of Medicine. Building to left of the Colonial. Bank was the shop of J.Nelson Jones Chemist afterwards a Brewer, he came to Australia 1848 and died in Ararat 9/1/14 (88). United States Army standard issue infantry heavyweight webbing waist belt as worn in World War 1. This is an example of a 'trophy' belt, complete with a souvenir collection of metal insignia, badges and buttons which are attached to the belt. The belt has brass fittings however the original buckle is missing. There are a total of 83 various allied military insignia, badges and uniform buttons from the World War 1 era, 56 metal insignia and badges and 27 metal buttons which are mostly of Australian, New Zealand, Canadian or British origin. Belt manufactured by M W & S Limited of England in 1915.The reverse side of the belt is stamped "M W & S LTD., 1915" and has an "L" stamp and the Defence Department "/|\". The belt reverse also has the following name in black handwriting "A Paxino 9781 2211". Note A Paxino was associated with Frankston RSL Sub Branch for many years.

The Eltham Roads Board was established in 1856. This is a unique significant record of early settlers in the Shire of Eltham. One of 6 early rate books. This is among the oldest items in the EDHS collection. An article in the Eltham and Whittlesea Shires Advertiser Friday 21 Nov 1941 Page 5 titled: District's Early History states: "The first rate book which is still in existence at the Shire Office is for the year ending October 14, 1858 and is probably the best record possible to indicate the development of the district. At the time properties were rated as follows: Cultivated land. 6d. per acre; pasture land, 1d. per acre: estimated annual value of buildings, etc., 6d in the (pound). The total amount of rate recorded for the year was (pounds)153/14/8. Properties were described as being situated at Lower Plenty, Yarra Yarra, Eltham, Lower Eltham, Kangaroo Ground, Yarra Flats, Diamond Creek and the Yarra."Ledger with printed columns: Number, Name of Occupier, Description, Where situated, Cultivated land, Pasture land, Estimated annual value of buildings, Rate, Remarks, Arrears collected, excused, unoccupied, uncollected and amount actually collected.
