Black and white photograph of ten of the people who attended the first Council of Tramway Museums of Australasia (COTMA) in 1975 at the 25th anniversary conference at Ballarat during November 2000. Photographed in front of Ballarat Tramway Museum Horse Tram No. 1. Featuring John Pennack, David Verrier, Richard Gilbert, Bill Kingsley, John Radcliffe, Ron White, Keith Kings, Bob Cowing, Peter Kahn and Keith Stodden. Yields information about Ballarat No. 30, in the 1950's - SEC Official photograph.1708 - Black and white photograph of a Ballarat Sebastopol type tramcar when built new in 1913. Photo used in Keith Kings book, "The Ballarat Tramways" on page 28. Understood to be an ESCo photograph. Tram has "Suttons for Gramophones" roof advertisement, words "Ballarat Tramways" on the top rail above windows and "Coliseum Photoplays"in central window. Two of the four side blinds are in the down position, probably done to show their presence. Tram has a "bulls-eye" type destination indicator. Photographed outside the depot with Lake Wendouree in the background. Photograph is a photo of another print, with the words? "Original Rolling Stock" underneath the original print and the black ink "12" in the bottom left hand corner on the newer print. 1708.1 - as above, but without the "12" written on the photograph. The words "Ballarat Rolling Stock 2 Man Brush Type Car 1918". - added 18/11/2001. 1708.2 - as above, but with more of the label cut off. 1708.3 - Electronic copy of same photograph donated by Ron Hann on a CD of photographs given to him at the time of his visit in January 1963 by the Manager. Article - Grand Union Tramway Junction, Balaclava Road and Hawthorn Road
This file contains three items. 1. A three-page Caulfield Conservation Study of the Balaclava Road/Hawthorn Road Tramway Crossing, undertake by Andrew Ward and dated September 1994. Study includes a brief history of the junction and a statement of significance. Study also includes Four black and white photographs of the junction and of architectural details of the tram tracks. 2. A letter from the Conservation Manager of the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) to the manager of the Planning Section for the City of Glen Eira, dated 15/06/2001 and attached to a six-page Classification Report. The letter informs of the Classification of the Grand Union Junction at the intersection of Balaclava and Hawthorn Road by the national trust, signed by Conservation Manager Ian Pausacker. Classification Report includes details such as the date of construction, a statement of significance, history of the junction, physical description of the junction and the condition of the junction at the time of writing. Report also includes a map of the Melbourne Tram Network drafted by Keith Kings and dated 01/005/1956, with illustration of the layout of fifteen tram depots, and updated aerial illustration of the Grand Union Junction, and a further map of Melbourne Tramways developed by North Melbourne Electric Tramways and Lighting Co. and Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust, drafted by Keith Kings and dated January 1914 with illustrations of three tram depots. 3. Two articles from the Caulfield Leader written by Aaron Langmaid and dated 13/02/2007 and the Melbourne Bayside Weekly dated 21/02/2007 written by Joanne Sim, both concerning the Grand Union Junction. The article from the Caulfield Leader includes a picture of Executive Officer of the council of Tramway Museum of Australia Craig Tooke in front of the intersection. The article from the Bayside Weekly includes a picture of a tram passing through the junction and a brief history of the junction and tram network in Caulfield. Photo shows Bendigo 18, painted in the Bendigo Trust colour scheme at the Mine terminus, late 1980's or early 1990s. It was originally converted by the SEC to a one-man tram but not used as such. Converted by the Bendigo Trust to a enclosed car with entries at either ends. Operated by the Ballarat Tramway Museum during 2001 to 2005 to celebrate 150 years of Gold, where it carried its Melbourne number of 45. The photo is taken at the intersection Fitzroy St and The Esplanade. There is a compulsory tram stop sign on the left side of the photo. Photo also in item 4601, TAP73. This view has not been cropped. Photo by either Peter Duckett or Ray Pearson. The tram is now owned by the Sydney Tramway Museum and was painted a burgundy colour to promote a heritage tram line in Canberra in 2001. See item 5602. Guides Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society conductors about their duties, ticket issuing, pay-ins sales etc. Was the first version of this document. Prepared by Peter Walker. The first version was issued 1/11/1989. see item 8875. Was collected from the depot 1/2001 when a new version of the Guidelines was issued. In use from c1990 to 2001 as a sample copy and loaned to new conductors. Document originally prepared by Peter Walker, who passed away 24/9/2005 - see Reg Item 6838 for Obituary.Demonstrates BTPS documentation for crew use.Folder containing in plastic sheets, the 1/5/1990 version of the Ballarat Vintage Tramway Operating Guidelines. The document is a photocopied version of "Issue 2 / 1.5.90" on yellow paper. It consists of 33 sheets which have been amended in a number of places to adjust for cash floats, fares, museum sales tin.
