The Thompson's Foundry Battery was re-erected in the Parkin's Reef Reserve after being used at Bola Creek near the NSW border. Bendigo Town Hall, Heritage Victoria ''A Goldfields Palace Blue Leaflet'' with coloured photographs and white text. Photographs courtesy of Westox Pty Ltd and the City of Greater Bendigo. 2002. Front page features the extensive work that would be undertaken for the restoration. A time line beginning 1851, gold discovered in Bendigo. 1854 German-born W. C. Vahland arrived in the colony. 1855 Town of Sandhurst (Bendigo) became a municipality. 1856 First Town Hall was a small timber building on View point. 1857 Vahland sets up his architectural practice with Robert Getzschmann. 1859 A new, two-storey Italianate Town hall designed by George Fletcher, Town Surveyor, was built. 1866-77 Two-storey extension added to the north of the building to house the council chamber. 1871-72 Addition of the Corn Exchange comprising two storeys and a basement to the north of the building. 1878-87 Major remodelling of the exterior and interior carried out to the designs of architect W. C. Vahland. The work comprised major extensions and the addition of three towers and mansard roof, reconstruction of the main stair, decorative plasterwork by Otto Waschatz (decorated Royal palace, Copenhagen), and council chamber painted by W. J. Straugher. 1902 Painting of the main hall by Coulter and Smith of Bendigo. 1913-15 Remodelling of offices. 1926 Replacement of main Hargreaves Street hall entrance, foyer and balcony with stage. 2000 Restoration works to the Town hall commence. Under the direction of Mr Joseph Post 50 members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) performed to at crowded house at the Capital Theatre in Bendigo July 1st, 1948. The programme included the Max Bruch's Violin Concerto in G Minor, op. 26; Dvorak 'New World'' Symphony; Weber's ''Oberon'' overture, Debussy's 'L'Apres midi d'un Faune''; chorale, 'Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring'' (Bach-Roberts,) gavotte from Suit No. 6 (Bach-Wood), Brahms'Fifth and Sixth Hungarian Dances, Percy Grainger 'Country Gardens; (Arr, Earle) 'The Mermaid'' and (Martin Shaw) 'The Song of the Music Makers'' Soloists for the event included: Miss Bertha Jorgenson a Castlemaie Local and well known talent on violin; Miss Kathleen Moore violin; Miss A Walk flute. Beside The Matthew Bros. store J.B. Edwards tendered his trade as Jeweller and Watchmaker and T. Sayer furnished the local undertaker with hearses, horses and plumage. Just visible over the tops of the trees in Mitchell Street is the Morley Johnson building the former Toyworld. Black & White Photograph Alexandra Fountain, Bendigo Souvenir Tourism Set Rose Collection Series c1929. Alexandra Fountain is regarded as one of Bendigo, Victoria, Australia's most prominent landmarks and monuments. The fountain is located in Bendigo's "Charing Cross", the intersection of View Street and Pall Mall. Haring Cross effectively stands at the centre of the city and is one of Bendigo's busiest and most prominent intersections. The fountain stands opposite to the main entrance of Rosalind Park. Alexandra Fountain was funded from the proceeds of the Bendigo Juvenile Industrial Exhibition (1879), a £500 gift from George Lansell and a further £700 from the Sandhurst City Council (now the City of Greater Bendigo). The fountain was designed by W. C.
