Two copies of handwritten extracts from the Mine Manager's of the Princess Dagmar Mine, Garden Gully line. Mine Managers were J. Ebboth, Charles Gambetta, A. Williams and S. Richards. Subjects reported on include: supply of water to boiler, new engine- driver, stolen gold, engine house destroyed by fire, painting and cementing the chimney stack, sale of galvd iron and oil barrels, contractors erecting machinery, crushings, repair to shaft, new ropes, broken indicator on winding engine and work stopping and recommencing seven months later. Handwritten extract from the Bendigo Advertiser 5/12/1893 where three miners had a narrow escape in a winding accident at the Huster's Reserve No 2 Company's Mine, in Pall Mall. At the change of shift, three miners, William Merrin, Frederick Willoughby and E. Johns got into the cage on the western compartment to be lowered to the 845 ft. plat. The Driver Russel lost control of the engine and hauled the empty cage in the eastern compartment to the poppet heads. Cage went up with a crash, but the safety hooks caught it and let the rope go. The men in the cage in western compartment were very alarmed has cage hit the bearers on the 845 feet plat with considerable force. If it had crashed through the bearers they would have landed in the water below. The shaft was 1070 feet deep. The Mine Manager, S. T. Letter addressed to D. McClure, M.L.A., June 11th, 1980 from Western Mining Corporation Limted. Letter outlines the plan to 'use a commercial elevator rather than a winding system for placing tourists into the underground exhibition'. Western Mining Corporation intended to make a donation to fund this venture but 'the money involved is rather more than we had in mind'. The original quote was $45,000 but is going to be in the range of $200,000 to $300,000. A two page file note on a telephone conversation between Daryl McClure and J.O.
