Photographed outside the Wendouree Parade depot, late 1887, with 16 workmen standing or lying around the tramcar. Builders Photo. Tram is lettered "BALLAARAT TRAMWAY CO LIMITED". A sign on the advertising board says "Duncan & Fraser, Builders, Ballaarat". The men around the tram are dressed in trade clothes, with aprons, including carpenters, painters and blacksmiths. Newspaper clipping from the letters to the Editor Section of The Courier, Ballarat, dated about 19/8/1971. The first letter, signed by "All Het Up" pleading for the trams to be retained on a limited route serving Sovereign Hill and the Gardens and noting the tourist potential of such a tram line. A Second letter supports the retention of the trams by the BTPS in Wendouree Parade. Letter is unsigned - may not have been cut out properly. Notes the preservation of a street tramway in Montevideo. Set of four letters between the Manager TB and Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo tramways between the period of 27 Dec. 1929 and 30 July 1930 regarding the "Australasian Tramway Conference. See image files for details of the letterhead of the various company offices. 1972.1 - Letter from the Engineer and Manager of the Melbourne Electric Supply Company Limited, Melbourne office advising Mr. A. D. Murdoch, Manager of the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board that he had forwarded the questionnaire to their Geelong Engineer for completion. Dated 30/12/1929. Stamped as being received by the TB as 31/12/1929. See image 1972i1 for image of letter. 1972.2 - Letter from the Chief Accountant of ESCo Ballarat, to the Manager TB acknowledging receipt of the letter dated 24/12/1929 regarding the questionnaire and saying Mr. Pringle is on holidays and will be attended to on his return. Dated 27/12/1929 and stamped as being received by the TB as 28/12/1929. See image 1972i2 for image of letter. 1972.3 - Carbon copy of a letter on pink paper from Manager TB to Mr. G.F. Cole, Resident Engineer and Local Manager of ESCo ( Ballarat) regarding the questionnaire - too late to be included. Dated 9/7/1930. 1972.4 - Letter from Mr. G.F. Cole, Resident Engineer and Local Manager of ESCo Bendigo office - forwarding the questionnaire to the TB and apologising for the late arrival. On letterhead of the ESCo Bendigo office - see image 1972i1 for image of letter. Dated 5 July 1930, and received by TB on 7/7/1930. Questionnaire (attached to 1972.4) details sections and fares, section lengths, holiday fares, workmen's fares, scholars' fares (no concessions) details of concession fares, postmen fares, health nurses, employees, periodical tickets, prepaid tickets. Certificate on quarto size paper, issued by the BTPS Co-operative Limited to Warren Doubleday certifying that 200 shares, number 9776 to 9975 had been issued on 26/2/1979. Printed in green ink with an image of SEC tram No. 31 at the top of the paper. Certificate No. 87. Signed by Nancy Kierath as Director and G. Netherway as Director and ?? as Secretary. Has BTPS Co-operative Limited Seal stamped adjacent to the signatures. Share Certificate Issues by the BTPS Co-Op to raise funds for the construction of the depot. Administrative record, T. Anderson Robertson and County Court, "Nankervis vs The Ballaarat Tramway Company Limited.", 1901
Copy of "Plaint Summons No. 39" lodged at the County Court, Ballarat May 1901, titled "Nankervis vs The Ballaarat Tramway Company Limited." Cost claimed was L100 (100 Pounds). Comprises: 1. Cover sheet, on pre printed form, filled out in light black ink and with pencil notations giving a sum of L28/9/6 and L30/0/0 (settlement figure?). Pinned with a brass clip to the cover sheet, which is in poor condition at edges is a handwritten sheet giving particulars of the demand and other details. 2. Copy of Interrogatories for the demands - three sheets of typed paper, pinned together to a typed cover sheet with a brass clip. Dated 15/4/1901 and signed by the W.E. Johnston, Deputy Judge. 3. Copy of handwritten statement by a person (a doctor?) who called on Mrs. Nankervis to assess her condition and circumstances - dated 28/3/1901. 4. Copy of handwritten letter from T. Anderson Robertson (Barrister and Solicitor) of Lydiard St. Ballarat, dated 27/2/1901 to the Chairman and Directors of the Ballarat Tramway Co. Ltd. advising them of the accident and seeking compensation. 5. Letter as for item 4, but dated 18/3/1901 detailing the accident and seeking L50. (50 pounds) settlement. - three separate sheets - handwritten letter. In the cataloguing sheet is an e-mail from Alan Bradley outlining how the documents were obtained. Black and white photograph of SEC No. 31 at the intersection of Sturt and Lydiard St after having an accident. Photo is on the front only of the tram, one cab window smashed, dash canopy lighting cover partly torn off. Crew members - one inside tram, one on outside. Another person standing by the doorway wearing a leather apron. Trams has destination of Grey St. Sebastl" Person looking into tram wearing the leather apron is probably the driver of the Fruit truck that collided with the tram. Published in the Courier on 3/9/1971. 2nd copy added 29/5/05 - in good condition. Hi Res version added 16-12-2015. See Reg item 7132 for a poor copy of the original Newspaper which identifies both people as Nicholas Marios and D.
