He was President of the Victoria and Tasmania Conference in 1897, President of the Wesleyan Conference in 1897, President of the General Conference in 1907. Awarded the degree of Doctor of Divinity by Queen's University, Toronto. Fellow of the Linnaean Society. William Edward Watkins was born at Carlton, Victoria on 18 June 1887. He entered the Theological Hall, Ormond College, in 1922 and completed his course in 1924. He was ordained and inducted at Collingwood in 1924. In 1925 he was assistant to the Rev. John Barnaby in the Group Mission, which included the churches of Fitzroy and Collingwood. He was called to St. John's Ballarat in 1927, South Melbourne in 1930, St. David's Geelong in 1936, Kew Presbyterian in 1942 and Wallan in 1950. Reverend Alfred Madsen was a Methodist minister who was born in Maryborough in 1864 and died in 1930. He served in Ballarat and President and Secretary of the Primitive Methodist Conference before Union as well as Secretary of the United Methodist Church in 1916, and President of the Conference in 1917. He was a minister in country Victoria and Ballarat and was chaplain of Scotch College from 1919 - 1926.
