Established by George Guthrie in 1857 (about 5km north of its current site) and then again seven years later in 1864 after it initially closed, Bendigo Pottery remains one of the most influential and longest running Pottery’s in Australia. Over the years the Pottery has contributed to the growth and development of the district through both its products including building products, table ware and decorative and commemorative war as well as artistically, being responsible for training and supporting many potters locally. These two photos were most likely taken in the volleyball court area of the Army Survey Regiment, part of the grounds of Fortuna, Bendigo, in c1989. The occasion was probably to farewell SSGT Kevin Boehm, who was a cartographic draughtsman, after 22 years of service in the ADF. It is likely Bendigo Toyota was approached to loan their miniature Toyota Tarago; a vehicle used for marketing purposes. The novelty of this quirky “drive past” event was that Kev was well known as a part-time car salesman and often took the opportunity of assisting new staff in buying a car. Kev was a qualified pilot and often took time on weekends to take unit staff and their families on recreational flights over Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga. Bendigo Art Gallery was founded in 1887 and has over the years undergone extensive building and renovation programs in recent years adding a new contemporary wing, storage areas, and a new entrance and gallery shop. This marquette was created to commemorate the new architecturally designed wing which was completed in 2014. This Roll begins in 1924 which is incorrect. As the notations centre of the board states “there is gross errors and emissions etc”, “refer to Appendix One of A Century of Service”, the history of the RSL Bendigo, Cat No 8093. The true roll starts 2015/16. Also stated “As of 28.10.2000 - Bendigo District RSL”. Names were added on this role up to approx 2015. As a new Honour Board was being put together to combine the old & new RSL Sub Branch it was decided to omit the names on the old board so it only reflected “Bendigo RSL”. The new board will be placed in the Bendigo District RSL Sub Branch Havilah Rd plus also contain Life Members. The old board will remain in the Soldiers Memorial Institute Building. Eugene and Annie Mary (Mollie) Sibson married in 1933 and both were associated with the Bendigo Hospital. Eugene held a the position of Medical Officer for 48 years and Mollie as a paid nursing sister until her marriage in 1933, although Mollie did continue to hold an unpaid position on the Board of Management of the Hospital for many years afterwards. Eugene was first elected to council in August 1976 and elected Mayor of Bendigo for the 1978 – 79 term at which time Mollie served as Mayoress.Set of three black and white photographs, individually mounted on card.
