This is a medal awarded by the Warrnambool Bowling Club to William Kucks in 1900. The Warrnambool Bowling Club was established in 1867 with a green near the Royal Hotel in Timor Street. The club still operates in Kelp Street. William Kucks was a long-time resident of Warrnambool, operating a boarding house in the town in Timor Street in the 1860s and then a bakery in the same street for many years.This medal is of considerable interest as a memento of the Warrnambool Bowls Club in the early 20th century and of a well-known 19th century and early 20th century Warrnambool resident, William Kucks.This silver gilt covered medallion is diamond shaped with the edge incised into four small triangles and four curved and pointed shapes. The latter have four adjacent leaf shapes in relief. The centralised text is surrounded by a horseshoe of graduated, rounded pentagons. This is a souvenir jam spoon which would have been given or sold to Warrnambool Bowling Club members and visitors to Warrnambool. The game of lawn bowls was first played in Warrnambool in 1868 but the present day Warrnambool Bowls Club was founded in 1890, with a bowling green in Liebig Street, Warrnambool. Today the club has its facilities in Kelp Street Warrnambool and its logo features a Warrnambool lighthouse.This spoon is a memento of the Warrnambool Bowls Club and shows the type of souvenir popular with members and tourists some 40 or 50 years ago. This is an electro-plated nickel silver jam spoon. It has a coloured metal piece welded into the top of the spoon. This has been enamelled in blue, white and silver and has an image of a lighthouse and some printing. There are also some markings on the back of the spoon. The spoon is in a cream-coloured cardboard box which is rectangular-shaped. The inaugural meeting to form Harcourt Bowling Club was held in May 1955. Cr Ben Bingham donated half an acre of land in Bagshaw st Harcourt and the club acquired a small building from Blight's Quarry to serve as a clubhouse. The first day's play took place on 24th October 1959. New clubrooms were built in 1961 with the official opening of the Club held on Saturday 11th November 1961. The club became affilaited with Bendigo District Bowling Assocaition and, in 1966/67 won the Associated division 3 pennant. ; Depicts a group of men, the core ‘movers and shakers’ of the Harcourt community, in the course of their favourite recreation, Association champions in just the seventh year after formation..
