This was the first-time winning the "C" grade band competition at Tanunda, S.A. as well as representing Victoria in that competition.There were five new bands participating in the Tanunda, South Australia Band Competition in October 1928, and the Nhill Brass Band under the direction of Mr. James Davis had the honor of representing Victoria. The band participated in the competition despite there being an influenza epidemic before they left. This was the first-time winning the "C" grade competition at Tanunda,S.A. as well as representing Victoria in that competition.Photograph attached to the center of brown colored picture card, with border, title and names inscribed. This book was carried in France and possibly Gallipoli by Sig. H. C. Roussac and the insert "d/0291" was of a Chaplain who obviously had a profound affect on the ownerDemonstrates the religious convictions of some soldiers in WWIBlack leather bound bible with the first page removed by a clean cut. The bible the name of Signaller H. C. Roussac. 25th Battalion A.I.F. and the date Sept 11th 1917. There is a further inscription "Carried through Action "Battle of Ypres" Sept 20th 26th Oct 4th, 9th and 12th consecutively- Wounded Oct. 12th 17- signed H. C. Roussac. There is also what may be an autograph Pt. ? Frogg Masfr??? The bible also contained a lithograph, probably cut from a paper of Chaplain-Captain F. H. This star finder, designed for aeronautical use, was based on the Rude form as modified by Elmer Collins of the United States Hydrographic Office. It consists of a white plastic planisphere with the northern sky on one side and the southern on the other that shows all the stars in the American and the British Air Almanacs; nine clear plastic altitude-azimuth templates for use at different latitudes up to 85° north and south; an instruction card; and a leatherette container. It was published in March 1942 under the authority of the Secretary of the Navy, and cost $2.50.

Ships still in wartime grey and used to transport personnel and equipment back to Australia after the war, before returning to England. PMHPS assume that these five photos (3354.01 - .05) were taken on the same day. See Glen Stuart's comment above. HMS Glory, Implacable and Indefatigable with attendant destroyers Tuscan and Armada arrived in Port Melbourne on 23 January 1946 and returned to England in 1947. [This series of photos 3354.01 - .05 as well as 3361 and 3362 came to PMHPS from the Moe Historical Society via the St Kilda Historical Society. Notations in pencil on the back along the left had edge indicate they came from "C W Ward photo, 355 High St, Prahran, Melbourne". Each photo bears the date 9-12-1947 in the top left corner. It is not known what this date refers to. Possibly it is when the photo was printed. Another notation on each photo says "Port Melbourne, taken in 1920".
