The mine was the “Hustlers Royal Reserve Mine No 2” and was closed in 1912. The Soldiers Memorial Institute was erected on the mine site and opened on 15.11.1921 and occupied by the Bendigo RSL Sub Branch/Bendigo District RSL Sub Branch Inc since then. Newspaper clipping from the Bendigo Advertiser, pages 1 and 2, Tuesday April 18, 1972, the after the commencement of bus operations following the closure of the SEC operated system. Front page has an article titled ""Buses were a little late at first" - about the late running of buses after the change over.
