The aims of the MGC was to "challenge young people with the saving power of Jesus Christ and provide avenues of christian service" and "to provide for the spiritual, social, physical and educational welfare of the members". The service was conducted by Rev Dr D Grierson with the Installing Officer being Rev R F Giese. The Methodist Order of Knights was the official youth organisation of the Methodist Church of Australasia. It originated in Hurstville, NSW, on the 4th October 1914 by the then Mr and later Rev Alex Bray. Alex Bray was a Sunday School teacher and spoke to his class of the Knights of the Round Table. In 1917 the Order of Knights was officially recognised by the Sunday School Dept of the NSW Methodist Conference. Courts spread thoroughout Australia. In 1927 the High Court of NSW called for designs for a badge and in 1929 the General Conference of the Methodist Church of Australasia recognised the Order as an approved Organisation. In 1938 the Senior Section was organised into Degrees of Sincerity, Service and Sacrifice; the Junior Section into Pages' Degree with advancement to Esquire. In 1954 the Junior Section was reorganised into two groups: Pages 8 to 11 years and Esquires 12 to 15 years. The Knight's Motto: "Live Pure, Speak True, Right Wrong, Follow Christ the King, else wherefore born?" Courts of the Order: General Conference Department of the Christian Education - General Court - Provincial High Court - District Court - Local Court - Senior Court - Intermediate Court - Junior Court . Regalia: All members of the Intermediate and Senior Courts wore regalia consisting of a cloth shield superimposed by a cross of light and dark blue ribbons, and supported by a cloth collar. Esquire and Degree of Sincerity regalia: White collar and white shield. Degree of Service regalia: Green collar and shield. Degree of Sacrifice: Scarlet collar and shield. District Court regalia: Blue collar and gold shield. High Court regalia: Gold collar and purple sheild. General Court regalia: Purple collar and shield. This building was erected c1856 as the Wesley Church. Negotiations for its sale to the Ballarat School of Mines started in 1883, and the sale was completed for 2000 pounds. The Ballarat School of Mines Musuem was transferred to this building in 1885 giving the collection a more permanent and suitable location. The front was remodelled in 1920. The building was converted from the museum to the E.J. Article (a): 'Carpet, Cushions to be dedicated' 'Mr Saunders, a descendant of explorer Captain James Cook, was a prominent Colac citizen until his death 18 months ago' The dedication to be performed at the Colac Wesley Church. A postcard to the Comradeship Committee when a Legatee was travelling in France. The postcard was addressed to the Legatee Chairman of the Comradeship Committee. Dated 3 Feb 1983. It is signed GRIFF, it says: The French experience I should have had years ago. I am in the DORDONGE after spending some days at LA ROCHELLE on the Atlantic coast. The provincial French are courteous, generous, helpful and so elegant. Work I did with my French mistress at the Wesley Church has paid great dividends although today may be tough. I give 40 children (aged 10-14) their first ever Scottish Country dance lesson. The goose hatched in March lives a normal farmyard life till October, then it is force fed for three weeks and then 'WHAM' and PATE. Next meeting at Norton - France! Four photographs framed together to produce a panorama. The four photographs were taken from the slope of the Ballarat School of Mines where the Wesley Church now stands. When joined they gave a panoramic view of one of the world’s richest alluvial goldfields. The town you see had over 50,000 people. Bridge Street on the left is well established. The crude pans and cradles of the early “diggers’ were already giving way to steam power and the deep shafts of the “miners”. Money and machinery were needed to get to the deeper leads, and the smoke stacks of the great company mines can be seen across the photo. The waterloo mines was one of the first deep shafts and was sunk at the foot of the Dana Street hill. This banner was constructed by a group of Deacons and Deaconesses at a National Diaconate Conference held in Melbourne in February 1993. The banner was originally held at Catherine Ritchie House. It is significant because it was put together by a group of Deacons who were ordained in December 1992 and Deaconesses who gathered for the biennial National Diaconate Conference which was held in Melbourne in February 1993 prior to the formal establishment of DUCA (Diaconia UCA, the national body of Deacons and Deaconesses in the Uniting Church in Australia). This conference happed at a time leading up to a special service in Wesley Uniting Church in Melbourne when 12 Deaconesses were ordained as Deacons in Feb 1993. Rev. Dr Andrew Melville McMaster, B.A., B.D., was born in 1922 at Mataura, New Zealand, where his father was the Presbyterian minister. The McMaster family came to Victoria in 1924. Rev A. M. McMaster entered the University of Melbourne in 1941, and after graduating Bachelor of Arts, studied at Ormond College, obtaining his Bachelor of Divinity in 1947. In 1947 he married Jean Langdon Buller, and in 1948 he was ordained and inducted into the Presbyterian Charge of Newtown, Tasmania. In 1951 he was called to Oatlands, Tasmania, where he served until 1956. From 1950 - 1952 he was Moderator of the Tasmanian Assembly. He was called to Swann Hill in 1956 and Croydon in 1962. From 1970 - 1972 he undertook post graduate studies at the McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. He was awarded a Doctorate of the Ministry in 1972. In December 1972 he was called to Kew Presbyterian Church. He was called to Noble Park in 1979 and to Wesley Church Shepparton in 1981. Hi retired in 1988 and died on 5th September 2009.
