The folder has been re-used. It was used by Bonang Timbers Waygara from 9.5.1990. It was used by East Gippsland Logging Company Pty Ltd from 3.1.1996Orbost has historically been based on the timber industry, but that industry has declined considerably over the last 20 years. Many Orbost nen worked at the Waygara mill. The number of locals involved in the timber industry has declined and many of the mills have closed. This item reflects a time when that industry was a significant contributor to the economy of the district.A lever arch folder covered in brown paper. The stadium was opened on the 24th July 1970 by Victorian Premier, Dick Hamer. It was the most famous basketball venue in the 70's & 80's.costing $8mil. On Saturday 17 May 1947, an article on page 25 of the Australian Women’s Weekly reported on the formation of a new women's club: the East Kew Women’s Community Club. The article reads: "Wives and mothers in a Melbourne suburb, East Kew, have formed the East Kew Women's Community Club. While babies and young children are under the supervision of a play leader, wives and mothers follow up their own interests. The club caters for varying tastes, has musical appreciation, drama, and "Keep Fit" classes. President Mrs. Grace Thake says that the club hopes soon to have tennis, debating, and discussion groups. The club originated from a debate, "Should women take an active part in social and civic affairs?" Two days later their interest in these matters was proved by the forming of the club, which took for its motto: "To help others, improve ourselves, and foster the community spirit." Membership is open to all women, regardless of age, politics, and religion, and aims to co-operate with all societies working for the improvement of health and cultural standards." The article relates particularly to the plaque in the collection of the Kew Historical Society.The East Kew Women's Community Club, also called the East Kew Women's Community Club functioned from c. 1947 to the end of the 1960s (to be verified). The records of the Club were placed with Kew Historical Society to preserve them for posterity. This seminar was organized by a committee as part of Victoria's 150th anniversary celebrations. It was published by the Dept. of Agriculture for East Gippsland Primary Industry Committee in 1985. Victoria's 150th anniversary was celebrated in 1984-1985. A 136 pp book with a black spine and a white cover. On the cover in black print is a logo created for the sesquicentenary of Melbourne and Victoria. Underneath the logo is VICTORIA 150 and Growing Together 1984-85. The book contains the records of the seminar, "Farming in East Gippsland - Past, Present and Future". At the bottom of this page is "Bairnsdale May 1 1985.
