Bound book of 100 Certifications - "Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board - Eastern System - Certificate of Competency as Motorman"". Consists of 100 pages of certificates, numbered 1 to 100, with butt of each certificate retained in the book. Bound with heavy card covers, green coloured on the outside of the covers, stapled with red binding cloth material. Each Certificate numbered, in top left hand corner, with space giving date, employee name, date of birth and signed or initialled by the Manager. On each certificate in the left hand edge is "Swinterton Bros & Co. Printers Melbourne". On each sheet in the top left hand corner is "MMTB/ES Form 105". The printers re-order number "9282" in pencil in the bottom right hand corner of the front cover and printed in the top left hand corner of the certificate. Engineering report by Christie & Gardiner detailing the construction, supply of materials, rails, special work, and that 7 Combination Cars had been purchased along with motors and trucks. Has four pages of financial statements. The First World War restricted progress in acquiring materials. The tramcar bodies were purchased from the Hawthorn Tramway Trust (HTT). Details the Trust's activities, finances, and a short review of activities noting the supply of energy from the Victorian Railways Newport Power Station. Engineering report by Christie & Gardiner detailing the construction, welding of joints, tar surfacing, substation equipment, fitting equipment to the seven ex HTT tramcars at Footscray, delivery of equipment for the tramcars, but a delay in the delivery of the trolley wire. There are four pages of accounts and one page for the Auditor's statement. Report prepared as a precursor to the formation of the Hawthorn Tramways Trust. The report looks at the estimated costs, revenue, expenditure and engineering difficulties. Receipt issued Mr L Hickman? for 8/- appears to be for the cost of property and 1 screw driver. Signed by H Guice who became the MMTB Treasurer and Accountant and was Acting Secretary in 1953. Herbert (Bert) Norman Guice was appointed by the HTT at its meeting of 21/1/1916 as its Accountant.
