Beautiful black silk top hat, lined with a 6cm wide band of leather, cream silk, and cream fibre board, with the markings - Wallworth 270 Bourke Street, Melbourne. First Class Award Centennial International Exhibition, Melbourne, 1888-9. A signature on the headband reads Jn H Sargood. A small silk ribbon bow, possibly used to tighten the headband. The first curved roofed shed can be seen at Town Pier; this remained until demolition in the 1950s. The Post Office Boat House is also visible just before the first small jetty (which is at the place where Alfred LINGHAM's Marine Hotel - the first in the area, 1840 - had its jetty). Produced in conjuction with the Women of Port Melbourne exhibition and launched 20.10.2005 at the Port Melbourne library by History Librarian Kay Rowan. Phyllis lives in Williamstown but revisits Port often. .01- note that this copy was signed by the author, but is the first incorrect printing.
