Box of Murray Comrie's Research Notes (Set 2), Murray Comrie's Research Notes (Set 2), circa 1960s-80s
Murray Comrie Collection. Murray Comrie, born in Tarnagulla in 1912 also became a policeman and later a Chief Superintendent, retiring in 1972 and passing away in 1983 after a long illness. Murray Comrie's son Murray Jnr., to avoid confusion became known by his middle name, Neil. Neil Comrie also joined Victoria Police and rose through the ranks to become Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police from 1993 to 2001. Blue-grey archive box containing research notes of Murray Comrie. Contains: A series of 17 notepads in which Comrie has annotated historical information from local newspapers. A very long rolled up piece of paper on which is printed the Comrie family tree A yellow envelope containing photogrpahs which are low-quality and/or duplicates of other images in the Murray Comrie Collection. A ledger in which Comrie has listed every Police Station in Victoria and its establishment date. Four vinyl non-archival document binders in which Comrie's research notes and photographs were housed when donated. Material was transferred out of these for preservation reasons. Document, Villa Alba: Interior Design Resource Centre
'Villa Alba: Interior Design Resource Centre', was the outcome of a funded project designed to underpin the restoration, adaptation and use of Villa Alba, 44 Walmer Street Kew, as a repository, resource centre, training institution, and display centre for interior design, decorative materials and techniques of the 19th and 20th centuries. The completed report was a submission by the Villa Alba Preservation Committee, in conjunction with Dulux Australia, to ICI. The submission includes original photographs of the period.The major objectives of this proposal were to preserve and restore the heritage listed Villa Alba, and adapt the house for use as Australia's first resource centre of historic interior design. The 34-page report outlines the case for the house's preservation, its projected use and the costs involved. Twelve page booklet, titled "Ballarat and Bendigo, Victorian Tramway Preservation" written by D. Menzies and J.H. Price, reprinted from Modern Tramway. Front cover has BTPS tram 38 on original depot fan, green banner centrally with title, and Bendigo Birney No. 28. A circular white sticker with "1.00" written on is stuck on the right hand side, centrally. Saddle stapled print in black ink on 120gsm art paper. Written material covers background history of both Ballarat and Bendigo tramways, tramcars, closure, the formation of the BTPS and the Bendigo Trust tramways and their operational history up to about mid 1975 as it mentions the first COTMA meeting. Document, Andrew Thorn, Villa Alba: Condition Survey and Stabilization of Critical Surfaces, 1997
This report was commissioned by the Villa Alba Preservation Committee following evidence of deterioration on a number of important surfaces at Villa Alba. The report documents changes that have occurred and compares them to the situation reported on in 1986. The report then outlines treatments carried out in 1986 and recently for each of the rooms worked on in 1986.36-page conservation report conducted by Andrew Thorn (Artcare) in 1997 of surfaces in Villa Alba. The report has the following structure: Condition Survey, Treatment Materials and Methods, Detailed Work in Each Room. This is the 3rd document following on from Cat No's 8255 & 8256. The letter is addressed to Mr J.K. Barnes Secretary Bendigo RSL Sub Branch. The letter confirms the points made at a meeting between Mr Barton City of Bendigo and the Bendigo RSL regarding the Restoration of the Bendigo Cenotaph. It outlines the following points; 1. Materials to be used. 2. Faults. 3. location. 4. Restoration. 5. Time of construction. 6. Work progress. 7. Chemical preservation. The foolscap page supplied to Council by the RSL outlines the timeline of the Cenotaph coming into being from Wednesday 6th May 1953 the first meeting to the 2nd of June 1957 when Sir George Lansell officially gave the Cenotaph to the Citizens of Bendigo.Document 3 pages stapled together. The first 2 pages are A4 and the 3rd is foolscap.
