Gives procedures, concession fares, Met Fare zones, colour coding of tickets, samples of tickets, including a used scratch card ticket (2 hour zone 2 concession) and a number of other tickets which have been stamped cancelled. Would appear that used tickets have been recycled for the publication, also has reproductions of concession cards. A heavy nickel or chrome plated steel ticket or fare strip canceling / registering mechanism used on Melbourne cable trams. When a fare was sold, the bell would ring advising the passenger that their fare have registered. "An ingenious device resembling in principle the ticket punch of a railway porter. It is carried by the conductor who wears pinned to his coat a 'trip-slip'. He punches this once for every fare received; the action is simultaneously registered on a dial inside the punch and bell rings to appraise the passenger of the fact. The punch is provided with a patent lock, the secret of which is known only at headquarters and effective system of check is thus secured." (" A story of the Melbourne Cable Tramway System" - page 54). Used by the MT&O and MMTB until 1922/23 when replaced by the check ticket system. Manufactured by the Railway Register Manufacturing Company. Tickets used by the Victorian Railways from the time of introduction of decimal currency (1966). At the time, 3c was the lowest fare in use. 1 and 2c were printed, but not issued. A 2c ticket was printed but a copy has not survived. Understood to be used until the introduction of time based tickets in the early 80s. The line closed in sections with the last section between the railway station and Elwood Depot closing in 1959. Compiled by the Melbourne Tramway and Omnibus Co. head office, to record the various check tickets issued at Car Houses or depots from 23/12/1898 to 1914. Has an index at the front and for each car house gives a sample of the check ticket, the date of order, individual numbers, number of tickets, total numbers and advertisements on the rear. Samples of the rear of each check with an advertisement on the rear included. Lists the car houses and the color of the check. On pages 121 to 129 are samples dated 1893 of check tickets printed on Edmondson type railway card tickets with various colours and numbers. Set of two sheets of paper tickets - 3 x 1d and 2 x 1.5d, unnumbered for the Sandringham - Beaumaris electric tramway - possibly printed as a sample for discussion. This style of ticket was used for child fares. The reference pages 129 to 130 and figure 6-24 refer. This shortlived tramway 1926 to 1931 was known as "B Division" and would have allowed separate financial accounting. Administrative record - St Kilda Brighton - Scholar's Concession ticket charge, Victorian Railways (VR), April 1916
Set of four documents regarding the issue of a Scholar's Concession Ticket to Barbara Talbot, a student at the Star of the Sea who turned 18 years of age during the currency of the ticket. It was marked not available after that date and had been returned to the Elwood office. The Memo from the "Auditor of Receipts" requested that an additional payment be collected from the student. Mr Gleeson, Tramway Inspected advised that ticket was not used after the lady's birthday and had been returned.
