Set of three colour slides of the corner of Power St and Hawthorn. The track was reconstructed to realign the roadway as part of roadworks to eliminate a sharp curve at the intersection in Nov. 1973 1 - W2 605 turning from Power St into Riversdale Road before reconstruction of the corner. Shows the location of the tram stop. Slide no. MP120 2 - SW6 879 turns from Power St into Riversdale Rd with works underway. Slide No. MP154 3 - W2 380 at the revised intersection following the work to reconstruct the corner. Slide No. 98. The intersection has since been reconstructed and the crossover relocated. They may be hand-held for portable lighting.This kerosene lantern was used as a light on road works in the Orbost area. It would have been carried/used by one of the road workers. Lamps of this kind were significantroadworks items in their period of use as essential tools to the safe-working operations of the Country Roads Board.. A red metal roadworks warning lantern. It is rectangular with a metal carrying handle. The top is domed. The door at the back is hingedand opens with a small nail. Nicholson Street was remade in 1984 with new kerb alignments, the introduction of red brick paving and the planting of oak trees. The two arch bluestone bridge which spanned the Jacksons Creek was replaced in the early 1970s with a wider double lane bridge. Dangerous curves were also taken out of the road. As result of council work it has been necessary to remove the 900 mm water main, excavate lower and replace the water main. In the first photo Ganger one operator Mr. Allen Parker at work on the main trunk water feed while Mr. Paul Somerville operated the rock breaker and Mr. Max Welsford operated the angle grinder.
