Photograph, Four Posts Inn in Glenorchy -- Building no longer exists
Four Posts Inn. Glenorchy. Building no longer exists. Located on the site now known as Glenorchy (Victoria). Glenorchy is approximately 20Km from the former Ashen's pastoral run occupied by Dugald McPherson. The Four post Inn was a "Staging Camp" for the police escort route during the transportation of gold by road from Mount Alexander gold fields (Bendigo) to Adelaide South Australia in 1852-53. The police escort is known to have called in at Ashens homestead to visit Dugald McPherson. The Four Post Inn was the scene on the occasion of and encounter between the police escort and bushrangers. At a later date The Four Post Inn was a staging camp for the horse drawn coach service between Stawell and Horsham.stawell -

The view shows three side windows and two at the front opf the building with four urn shaped decorations on top of the building. Black & white photograph of Stawell Shire Hall, taken in July 1949 when Stawell had a heavy snow fall. The photo shows the Shire Hall to the left of trees, with a laneway beside. A telegraph pole stands on the right side of the lane. The lane called Millers Lane was named in 2012. The snow fall occurred on the 18th of July 1949.Black & white photograph of the Stawell Shire Hall and Millers Lane. The photograph was taken in 1949 when snow had fallen in Stawell. Millers Lane has a telegraph pole on the corner. Longfield road looks cleared of snow but thick on either side of the road. This photograph is a copy obtained from State Library of Victoria. The photograph is of Stawell Shire Hall. Two persons can be seen in the foreground. The two story brick building beside the Stawell Shire Hall was once the Literary Institute. The Stawell Shire Hall building has been added to over the years. Ronald Campbell, the Shires second president laid the foundation stone on 28th April. 1866. The contractors were Hutchings and Delbridge. The photograph shows the first hall and office. The building contained simple 18 feet square rooms, with an entrance hall separating them, the facade was almost as it is now. The initial cost of the Shire Hall was $502.Black and white photograph of Stawell Shire Hall as one single storey brick building with parapet on top. Beside the Shire Hall is a two storey brick building. Also, a dwelling between the two building in the background in Cooper St. Two persons in the foreground, one on the road the other on the pathway. stawell -
