Rev. Daniel J. Draper (1810 - 1866). Arrived in Australia in 1820 where he worked for ten years in NSW and Vic before going to SA where he worked for the next 20 years. He built the Pirie Street Methodist Church. He left SA in 1855 returning to Victoria where, in 1859, he was elected President of the Australian Conference. Rev Draper returned to England in 1865 where he was appointed representative to the British Conference from Australia. He set out to return to Australia with his wife on the SS London in 1866 which almost immediately ran into a storm and all but 19 passengers died. With a career spanning over 30 years as a painter, Stieg Persson is a well known figure within the Australian and international art world. Persson’s work is celebrated for his distinct (yet eclectic) style, which consists of elements associated with abstraction, figuration and decorative art, as well as the artist’s deeply intellectual interrogation of Australian culture and society. In this work titled, Duck and quail eggs, Italian herbs, Persson reflects on contemporary parallels in changes of taste and the desire for decadence as a political and social drive. Inspired by Brighton’s iconic Church and Bay Streets, the artist addresses the social currency of luxury and high-end cuisine by depicting rococo style blackboards which offer the latest in fine dining, alcohol, exercise classes, skin treatments and lavish linens. Born about 1838, Eliza Brophy married Thomas Kennedy - an early Linton police officer, a Shire of Grenville councillor, and later a landowner/grazier - in 1861. Eliza and Thomas Kennedy lived in Linton from about 1865 to 1885, and then were at Portland from 1885 to 1892, after which Thomas Kennedy retired from police work to pursue farming and other interests. The Kennedys lived at their property "Fingal Park" (at Spring Vale, later called Pittong) until about 1907-08, when they built a house, named 'Kin-Kora", next to the Catholic Church in Cumberland Street, Linton. Eliza and Thomas Kennedy had thirteen children. The first five children are shown in a photograph taken outside the Linton Court House, c.1869-1870. (See Registration no. 2017-93). Eliza Kennedy died in 1915. An obituary for her published in the 'Grenville Standard', 25 September 1915, notes that "through her genial and happy disposition, she endeared herself to the whole community."Enlarged copy of original black and white photograph which has been mounted on white card. McAlpin built shops on this site - land (Dimmey's) including his own estate agency." One photograph claimed church was moved to Greenwood Ave in 1916. Photograph taken in 1904. Another photograph states that the photograph is of the Methodist Church and Sunday School. Inserted in the sleeve of one of the photographs are two small postcard photographs that state they are, "Methodist Church in Main Street, Ringwood opposite railway station. This plate was probably part of a crockery set used by the Warrnambool Congregational Church for church functions and receptions. The Warrnambool Congregational Church began when two men, Robert Winton and Thomas Nayler, met in 1862 to discuss the possibility of establishing a church of the Independent order. As a result the first Congregational Church was opened in Liebig Street, Warrnambool in 1864 with William Pentland as the first Minister. Samuel Nettleton was a notable member of the congregation, being the Superintendent of the Sunday School for 60 years. In 1940 the Congregational Church moved to a building in Henna Street and in 1973 the Congregational Church merged with the Methodist Church to form what is known today as the Uniting Church. In 1976 the former Congregational Church building in Henna Street was sold to the Salvation Army. This plate is of interest as a memento of the Warrnambool Congregational Church, an institution that no longer exists under that name. This is a cream-coloured china plate with a gold trim around the outer edges and the name of the church in the centre in a black and white scroll pattern. The gold trim is now almost obliterated. St George's Church of England, Mont Albert was built in 1886 and from 1904 until 1907 was known as Holy Trinity, Surrey Hills. As the population increased there was a need for a church in Surrey Hills. This brick church was consecrated in 1922 and replaced the earlier one built in 1907 on the adjacent site in Union Road. The house behind the church at 1 Montrose Street belonged to Mr W B Vine. There are 2 copies: the original donated print and an enlargement. The original is mounted on card with photo mounts along with 884, 885, 886 and 512. It measures 13 cm x 9 cm.
