The 5th/6th Battalion Royal Victoria Regiment Historical Collection
Print - Reproduction, framed, Bardia (action leading to the fall of Post 11)
Ivor Hele was the Australian official war artist of World War II. This painting depicts the members of 17 platoon 2nd/6th Battalions in their first action of the war. their mission was to "attack and capture Post 11" in order to provide a faint or diversionary attack for the brigades main penetration. The attack was pressed home with the characteristic vigour of Australian soldiers Prior to the attack the commanding officer demanded that " No matter what happens to us, when we go forward we shall give the enemy such a thrashing that they will never willingly stand up to an assault by Australian Infantry again." The Battalion succeeded in its mission and went on to play a vital role in many of the most arduous battles of the war. This painting depicts the actions of one of the predecessor units to 5/6 RVR. Large framed print of painting by Ivor Hele shows 17 Platoon 2/6th Infantry Battalion in an Italian trench during the attack on Bardia. The painting depicts the scene after the capture of one of the Italian dugouts by Corporal Brian Latham's Section. The print is in a large mahogany coloured frame and has a matt finish to the picture. A smaller, separate frame sits below the print and contains the history of the painting. it is in a matching frame and has an olive card backing and the story is printed on an off white sheet. Photograph, Studios Ltd, Shire of Eltham Soldiers' War Memorial Unveiled 11-11-26, 1926
The Shire of Eltham War Memorial, a tower of remembrance to those who laid down their lives in serving their country during the Great War was opened in 1926. It is situated within the Shire of Eltham Memorial Park which was established in honour of all those who enlisted in the Great War to end all wars Processed by Studios Ltd POSTCARD 1905-1940s Like the carte-de-visite, postcards enjoyed a collecting craze by large numbers of people, and were often kept in albums through which the interested visitor could browse. Postcards were posted or exchanged in huge numbers. Postal authorities in Australia only allowed the private printing of postcards from 1898. At this time the back of the card was reserved for the address and postage stamp, and the front was used for the message and a picture. In 1902 British authorities allowed a "divided back", so that the left side could be used for the message, the right side for the address and stamp, and the whole of the front was devoted to the picture. France followed suit in 1904, Germany and Australia in 1905, and the United States in 1907. - Frost, Lenore; Dating Family Photos 1850-1920; Valiant Press Pty. Audio - Audio Compact Disc, Audio Recording; 2015-11-11 A Virtual Eltham Literary Tour, 2015
Panel Presentation at Eltham District Historical Society meeting November Meeting - A Virtual Eltham Literary Tour (Newsletter No. 225, Nov. 2015) The topic for our November meeting is inspired by a literary tour of Eltham organised by the Eltham Library a few years ago. Of course at a meeting we cannot actually visit sites associated with local writers but we will discuss their lives, writings and Eltham connections. The starting point for this presentation was a long list of local writers, including many present day authors, with quite a few being members of our Society. To keep the presentation to a manageable length we will deal only with writers and literary figures who have passed away. The presentation by a panel of members will include a number of readings relevant to each of the subjects. A particular feature will be the life and work of Alan Marshall who had a long association with Eltham and is our most famous and well known author. In 1971 he wrote Pioneers and Painters: One Hundred Years of Eltham and its Shire. In the chapter Educationalists and Writers, he writes “Writers came to Eltham for the same reason as did the painters: their neighbours had similar interests and the surroundings attracted them.” His stories about local writers have informed the preparation for this meeting.Compact Disc Sony CD-R 700MB MP3 file; 78.8MB, 1:26:08alan marshall, audio recording, eltham district historical society, literature, local writers, panel presentation, society meeting -

Letter, Nillumbik Shire Council regarding the Nillumbik Festival for 1995, 11 September 1995, 1995
Information pack advising the Nillumbik Festival has succeeded the Eltham Festival and is to be held 11-12 November 1995. Theme is "Nillumbik - Building the Future Together". Includes information on how community groups can be involved featuring the Grand Parade, Stage Performances and Sporting displays, Stalls and general notes on stall sites and Registration form The Nillumbik Festival was introduced as a replacement for the Eltham Festival following the disbandment of Eltham Shire Council in December 1994 and the creation of Nillumbik Shire Council. It was an attempt to draw away from Eltham and be more inclusive of the wider communities in Nillumbik. However other local communities had their own festivals and the concept of a Nillumbik Festival was never widely accepted by the community and it shortly reverted back to the Eltham Fesitval in 1997.A4 copy paper, 7 pages, white and pink coloured1995, application form, eltham festival, nillumbik festival, nillumbik shire council -

The Shire of Eltham District Society's Parade float theme for 1989 was gold mining which, of course, was a most important aspect of our early history. Bruce Ness assembled the float with items loaned by Warrandyte Historical Society and quite a bit of his own ingenuity. Phyllis MacDonald also arranged for the Victorian Folk Music Club to provide us with appropriate musical accompaniment. To provide a level of authenticity, a present day prospector, Jack Hodson was in charge of the equipment on the float. The parade assembled in Youth Road and commenced at 10:30am.Colour photographeltham festival, shire of eltham historical society, main road, victorian folk music club, joh ebeli, 1989 -
