White envelope addressed to Mrs. Henry Wilson, No 2 Flat, 95 Grey Street, St. Kilda. S.2. And postmarked 28 Nov 1950. Envelope contains a light green invitation with blue printing inviting Mrs Henry Wilson to the 100th Birthday Celebrations of Bendigo January to December, 1951 and has a red stamp in the top left corner with Bendigo Centenary Jan 1st to Dec 31st 1951. Also contains a programme of events in Bendigo for the Festival Year 1951. Front of programme has picture of a miner holding a pick and a lady with an umbrella and a basket on her arm. Programs (10 ) from the Golden Square Methodist Church, dated from 1919 - 1929, signed by G.A. Pethard, Trustee, enclosed in an envelope with 'From G.A. Pethard, Golden Square, Bendigo' on bottom LH corner. Fund raising events for an electric blower for the church organ ; the Augustonian Fair; Harvest Festivals; the Forest Street Men's Choir and the Jubilee League are featured in the requests for funding support. The motto of the church is 'Think' - 'He can who thinks he can' A photo of the interior of the Church is shown in the 10th November, 1922, program. -

Book (item) - Scrapbook, W.H.C. Darvall, Victorian Seamen's Mission Scrapbook No 1, c.1896
This scrapbook holds numerous newspaper clippings recording events, functions and visits to the Seamen's Mission starting in 1896 through to 1902, although a few documents date from 1895. These dates coincide with the commencement of Mr WHC Darvall's various terms of office with the Mission from the mid 1890s. Mr Darvall's involvement with the Mission possibly stems from his arrival in Victoria in 1853 part working his passage from England as a purser on the migrant ship Asia. He first encountered Captain Pascoe on arrival at Williamstown who was also on the Mission executive when Darvall returned to Melbourne from Beechworth in 1871. 1898: Death of Captain Crawford Pasco with a photographic portrait. 1899: Small ink sketch by artist Charles Georges Darvall, WHC Darvall's cousin. 1900 Foundation of Geelong mission 1901: Queen Victoria's death (22 January) Australian Federation (1st January) Boer War (189-1902) Death of chaplain Ebenezer James Nautical exhibition On the inside of the rear cover of the book a plan of Williamstown has been pasted with no date provided. This scrapbook outlines the many events, concerts, important visits and social occasions held at and by the Mission during this time frame. There was a vibrant musical culture in Surrey Hills in the 1920s and 1930s. The donor William John Lock was a musician and lived at 9 Norfolk Road, Surrey Hills. Donation was made at time Libby Cavanagh was Secretary of the Surrey Hills Historical Society. Mrs N B Cerini was Jocelyn Hall's mother.This is one of a series of programs that documents the vibrant musical culture in Surrey Hills in the 1920s and 1930s.Faded blue-coloured bi-fold paper program with one corner cut off but with the program. [This also acted as the admission slip / ticket].
