THIS ASSOCIATION WAS FORMED IN 1901. IT WAS PRIMARILY CONCERNED WITH THE TRAINING AND REGISTRATION OF NURSING. THIS BECAME THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF NURSING IN 1934. IT ALSO GAVE RISE TO THE FORMATION OF THE UNION AS WE KNOW IT.THIS IS HUGELY SIGNIFICANT AND RELATES TO THE BEGINNING OF NURSING BECOMING A MORE PROFESSIONAL CAREER, EVOLVING FROM THE ORIGINAL ASSOCIATION TO THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF NURSING AND THE ANMF. ALL ALFRED HOSPITAL GRADUATE NURSES LOOKED FORWARD TO THEIR 'RVT' GRADUATION PARTY - UNIVERSALLY KNOWN AS THE RVT. THIS WAS ARRANGED BY THE GROUP JUNIOR TO THE GRADUATING GROUP. Zilles Printers was begun by Lewis Zilles in the early 1930s. It was in McKenzie Street Ballarat. His son Jeffrey also became a printer - letterpress, offset and screen printer. The business became Zilles Printers/Graphics and was in Armstrong Street and later Bell Street Ballarat. Ballarat College of Advanced Education Student Union produced a newspaper, Eureka. This was paid for from Student Union Funds. For it to succeed they depended on contributions from students. This style of milk bottle began to appear in Australia in the 1930s. The number stamped on the base indicated the dairy to which the bottle belonged. Nursery milk had a higher guaranteed fat content than ordinary milk. Lady Talbot, the wife of a Victorian Governor, was associated with the movement that was to become the Free Kindergarten Union in 1908. The Talbot Milk Institute was associated with the Union. It provided free uncontaminated milk to needy families, since many infant deaths and illnesses were traceable to unsuitable or adulterated food. A wide necked milk bottle made of clear glass. Embossed in an arc on the front of the bottle: 'Lady Talbot Milk Supply Co. Specially supervised nursery milk.' Also embossed on base: '62'.infant feeding

Paddy Slavin had a bakery at 118 Union Road, which had a rear exit onto Stirling Crescent. On the left is part of Paddy Slavin’s Bakery at 118 Union Road. The house with the hedge was that of Ada McBeath, organist for many years at the St Stephens Presbyterian and the Wyclif Churches, who lived at No.16 from 1900-1943. Phillip and Winifred Slavin are still listed in electoral roll in 1963 but by 1968 had moved to Gipps Street Collingwood, where he was still employed as a pastrycook.
