Uniform hat for the Australian Women's Army service, 1942 - 1945 issued to Mrs M Crowley. Item is part of an AWAS display uniform. Refer Cat No 1267.4. Australian Women's Army Service uniform hat which is khaki in colour. It has a Grosgrain brown hat band with a with Rising Sun badge pinned to the front of the band. Attached to the right hand side of the band over the band bow is a rectangular unit colour patch consisting of white and dark blue with a purple surround. the inside of the hat is lined with a Grosgrain sweat band. Florence Tatham Mellblom (nee Henry) was a painter, naturalist and photographer. She was born at Portland, Victoria, and studied art in Ballarat. She was a talented etcher from childhood, and joined the Portland Camera club. She also produced many watercolour paintings of the historic places of Portland. She was married (1932) to Karl Enoch Mellblom.Image of a bluestone building to the back of the painting. Next to it is a smaller reddish building. Exhibited by the artist at the Wood, Wine & Roses Festival, Heywood, 2004.Aunty Betty King was a Kerrup Jmara Elder from Portland. She was the great grand-daughter of King Billy of Yigar. Aunty Betty cared deeply about Nyamat Mirring and Country. A staunch activist and long-time advisor to the Friends of the Earth, Aunty Betty King and Sandra Onus worked together to fight against the logging of native forest in the Cobboboonnee taking part in protests and meetings.Acrylic paint on canvas depicting birds and fish, water lilies and other vegetation, and stylised designs associated with early settlement of Aboriginal people in the Portland/Glenelg wetland area. Black painted border with white dot pathways, a circle of white dots in each of the four corners. Group of Salvation Army Songsters 1966, photograph taken pre-Perth & Adelaide trip. In October 1966 the group travelled to Perth and Adelaide many miles were covered by the Songsters in the course of their mission of bring blessing and enjoyment per medium of music. Since 1960 when a visit was made to Hawthorn and Melbourne Spring Festival, over 5,500 miles have been travelled by this group. After the Perth trip a further 4,000 miles covered. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo.
