These sashes were awarded to Frank Pevitt a successful runner in the late 1940's and early 1950's. The year 1954 was when Frank finally came into his own. In March he came second in the mile and two miles in Bendigo and then, a week later, won the Lilydale Gift and the Eighty five pound prize. In April he won the two-mile Grampian Stakes at Stawell. In a large field of 81 starters, he won by five yards. Following this, he came a creditable third in the Bendigo Guineas. To cap off the year, at the end of December he won the Port Fairy Mile from John Barmby, 'effortlessly' according to the Argus newspaper.
