Made in Camp 13 by a POW.Rectangular light and dark wood cigarette case. One side has 2 birds sitting on 2 rings and 2 flowers on stems. The other side has a diamond inlay into triangles of different shades of brown wood. A small green square opens a slide lid to allow access to cigarettes. Usually worn for folk dancing.Made from cheesecloth, this short sleeved dress has an orange cotton bodice, red, blue, yellow and green Alpine flowers embroidered on the bodice. Short puffed sleeves, slightly gathered long cream cotton skirt attached. Dark brown lacing down centre front of bodice. Photograph, Female Office in Mustard Uniform - caricature, 1941-1946
Hans Walter von Gruenewaldt was a German POW who used his artistic ability to paint several large mural caricatures whilst he was held at Camp 13 at Murchison. The technique he used was colourful house paint, painted directly onto the walls of the German mess hut, reading room and recreation hall. After the war, the recreation hall paintings and all, was moved from the camp to the nearly town of Murchison and used as the RSL local dance hall for 50 years. When the hall was demolished the paintings were restored and framed by citizens of Murchison. The von Gruenewaldt murals presently hang in the David Jones Nursing home and other public buildings in Murchison.Photograph of caricature painted on mess hut wall. Gisela Koch was a German internee in camp 3. She was given the box while in Camp 3. Her niece, Dr. Silke Hesse donated the item.Rectangular shaped polished wooden jewellery box, rounded edges.
