non-fictionIn the course researching the opening of Masonic temples in Victoria, James Nicolas noticed that many non-Masonic buildings in the 19th century were opened with Masonic ceremonies. They were primarily historic buildings, including Mechanics Institutes, Town Halls, bridges, schools, hospitals and churches. They Masonic aspect was frequently a key part of the opening ceremony. Nicolas looks at the history including the opposition, including newspapers and the strident opposition of the Catholic Church. The newly renovated Kyneton Mechanics Institute is located next to the Kyneton Bowling Club. It features heritage décor, beautifully restored meeting rooms of various sizes and the main hall which seats approximately 200. A community space suited to exhibitions, theatre, business and private functions. This venue is managed by the Macedon Ranges Shire Council. Barry Lyons owned and managed the Windemere Hotel in Kangaroo Flat along with his wife Betty. Barry was a long time member of the Lions Club of Kangaroo Flat. Barry served as a Bendigo City Councillor from 2008 to 2016, and as Mayor in 2013 - 2014.
