These bottles have an aesthetic element in that the shapes , colours and textures are visually appealing. These photographs were taken in and around Falls Creek by Samuel Keith Pearce and printed for him as a foldout postcard by NuColor Vue. The postcards state they were printed for S. K. Pearce Pty. Ltd of Tawonga and Mount Beauty. Samuel Keith Pearce was born on 24 June 1917 in Armadale, Victoria. By the late 1940s he owned the Mt Beauty Supermarket, Newsagency, Drapery and Hardware store at Mount Beauty and also a store at Tawonga in partnership with his brother Gordon Cathew Pearce. For some time, they operated as Pearce Brothers. In the early 1960s Keith also opened a mini mart In Falls Creek. As well as being a keen photographer and an astute businessman, Keith Pearce was a well-known identity in the Kiewa Valley, making many contributions to the development of the area over a long period. This included serving as a member of the Bright Shire Council for many years. He worked hard to promote the interests of the Upper Kiewa Valley. As a sign of recognition and appreciation for his contribution to the community, the park opposite the grocery store in Mount Beauty was named the SK Pearce Gardens in his honour. The Eureka Stockade Memorial Park Committee was a voluntary group that worked towards commemorating the Eureka Stockade by caring for the Reserve and organising events there. Three page carbon copy of a letter from the Eureka Stockade Memorial Park Committee to the City of Ballarat Town Clerk. The carbon copy is not signed. The letter was written because the Committee were not satisfied with the action of the Council in relation to the Eureka Reserve in relation to parking.The letter starts as follows: "The Town Clerk City Hall Ballarat Dear Sir, After many years of harmonious cooperation between your Council and the above it is with regret and misgivings that we are forced to protest at any action of the City Council in regard to the Eureka Reserve. At out last meeting by an almost unanimous vote it was decided to protest at the erection of a line of posts north and south of the Kiosk excluding cares from the flat. For many years we have striven to popularise and improve the reserve by the voluntary effort and a lot of personal expense by members. Realising that we are living in a motor age, our plans have always included the provifing of adequate parking facilities for car Picnic Partites the providing of picnic tables etc in shady positions with easy access for cars. This privilege has been appreciated and enjoyed by the public for over 20 years, being perhaps the main attraction to the Eureka Stockade. It was with a feeling of frustration that we learned of teh Council's decision to exclude the cars from these facilities. The majority of my member are deeply hurt that your council should approve of such drastic change of policy without some consideration of the aims and future plans of this organisation. ... Coin collections have a long and varied history. Coins were often collected in churches in a box located near the entrance/exit, and later via a collection plate that was passed amongst the congregation Funds were used to repair the church or feed the poorest of the parish. The donation of coins is and was considered part of religious life and mentioned in Christian, Jewish and Islamic texts. With the need and expansion of charitable works occurring outside religious life, charity boxes began to spread into hospitals, orphanages and asylums. The need for non-fixed boxes grew with the rise in charities and their activities outside a fixed building. Collection boxes could be large (and therefore hard to move) or could be held by individuals acting as collection agents, working at a specific location, moving between dwellings or at events.
