Mr JH Quinton of Olinda, Victoria had the unusual hobby of carving coconut shell. Over a 50 year period he carved thousands of curios and household articles. Supplies of coconuts were sent to him by his brother in Singapore. Known in the Dandenong Ranges as "The Coconut King", he carved many series, including Australian animals, likenesses of hundreds of men prominent in public life, tableaux of sporting activities, including a series depicting cricket strokes, a coconut tea set, butterflies, buttons and boxes. Mr Quinton was an engraver and his considerable can be seen in the fine detail and sense of movement he was able to capture in his carvings.Decorative cube shaped box made from small tiles made from coconut shell. Sound and colour. A film about the Shrine of Remembrance which was made in April 1981 (from the label). Documents the history of the Shrine by interspersing images of war with returned servicemen's marches. The film shows archival images of Australia in 1914 and accounts from WWI, which gave rise to the campaign to build the Shrine in the 1920s. Gen.Sir John Monash, after consulting with Legacy, lent his support and it was opened in 1934 by the Duke of Gloucester, becoming the focus of commemoration in Victoria. The forecourt with the Eternal Flame was added in 1954 to commemorate the fallen of WWII and was dedicated by Queen Elizabeth II. Junior Legatees are shown paying their respects at one of their annual commemorations. This film has been digitised to preserve its content. Melbourne Legacy gratefully acknowledges the support of the Victorian Government and Public Record Office Victoria for making this possible.Legacy were instrumental in campaigning for the building of the Shrine. The State Electricity Commission of Victoria 1921 to 1993 was responsible for electricity generation in Victoria and the operation of three Provincial Tramways. It had a strong safety focus for the time. This first-aid box would have been provided to work places containing first aid equipment and materials. It has been made with interior slots or dividers to hold items. The box used by SEC Ballarat and Bendigo tram crews for holding their ticket outfits and making returns to the Revenue Clerks. Fitted with a padlock - see Reg. Item 3673. .Issued to a crew member with Traffic No. 62 - Roy Courtney. Each crew member was issued with a series of tins, A, B, and C which allowed for the various days and weekends to enable Revenue Clerks to accept returns and restock the tins with new tickets etc. Known to crews as "Two bottle boxes" - could fit two bottles of ale into them. A first aid box, rectangular shaped metal box 180mmHx265mmWx215mm D, painted black, hinged lid with 2 hinges, metal carrying handle on top, and metal locking clasp on the front. Has a white sticker with first aid written in red on the lid, and a gold SECV transfer. On the front of the box, below the locking clasp are the numbers "2787" in a gold transfer. Inside of box is gloss white, there are four metal brackets to hold some kind of partition. In the lid a four brackets to hold some kind of implement, and four corner brackets (similar to photo mounts) to hold something.
