The first local government authority for Marong was the Marong Road District (an early form of single-purpose local government), which was proclaimed on 19 August 1860. Its boundary was altered twice in 1862 and on 12 December 1864 it was re designated as a Shire. It absorbed Raywood Borough in 1915, and was proclaimed a Rural City in 1990. On 2 December 1994, with the creation of Greater Bendigo City Council, it was abolished through the amalgamation which took place between Bendigo City, Eaglehawk Borough, Huntly Shire, part of McIvor Shire, part of Metcalfe Shire and Strathfieldsaye Shire to form the City of Greater Bendigo. This embosser would have been used over the years by the local council authority. Decorated hand operated cast iron embosser with 50mm stamp head attached. Gold painted decorations on body of embosser only. Lever is also cast iron. Well used showing all over signs of wear. Stamp is for the Rural City of MarongRural / City / of / Marong -

The Parfett family regularly holidayed in the Halls Gap area c1920sRectangular black & white photograph in a thin wooden frame with gold edging. A party of 8 people grouped on a large rock in front of a waterfall. 3 men, standing, the first has a cigarette in his mouth and holds a hat, the second holds a hiking pole; 3 women, the third has her arm raised with her hand on the back of her head; and 2 youths, the bigger wears braces and sits at the front of the rock, feet crossed, hands in his lap. The Rock has letters B.P and t E (?) painted on it. Domestic object - Lantern, Thomas Ward, 1884
This lantern was made by Thomas Ward in 1884 for his daughter Alice Fawthrop Ward to see her way to the little church Wellington Road, where she played the organ for the mid week service. An early example of lighting used in the late 1800s. Additionally this particular light was made by Thomas Ward who was a part of a prominent family in Portland at the time. Thomas was part of the crew that went out to the Admella Shipwreck. The above mentioned church was built in 1870, and is now part of a private residence. Metal lantern painted cream. Round base with 6 rectangle shaped glass panels with 2 curved reinforced metal braces rounding the circumference of the body. One of the panels is a functioning door to allow candle access, door is secured by a thin pin with a ring pull to slide pin up and down. Top is domed with a decorative waves cap. Thin metal carry handle attached by two side braces. The Raywood Borough was created on 17 January 1865 and was united into Marong Shire on 1 October 1915. In 1994 . In 1994 the City of Greater Bendigo was created from the amalgamation of the former City of Bendigo with the Borough of Eaglehawk, Shire of Strathfieldsaye, Shire of Huntly and parts of the Rural City of Marong and Shire of McIvor. It now includes the towns of Axedale, Elmore, Heathcote, Marong, Raywood and StrathfieldsayeDecorated hand operated cast iron embosser with 35mm stamp head attached. The Public Trustee was the successor in law of the Curator of the Estates of Deceased Persons The Public Trustee was empowered to act as administrator, trustee, executor and attorney. On 1 July 1994, State Trustees succeeded the Office of the Public Trustee as Victoria's first State owned company under the State Trustees (State Owned Company) Act 1994. Bridgewater is a situated 39km northwest of Bendigo and 170 km from Melbourne. It was established as a crossing point over the Loddon River for gold diggers en route to the Inglewood gold diggings. As gold began to dry up in the district the town of Bridgewater developed due to its proximity to the river which it relied on for industries such as brewing, farming and market gardens. As demand on the water supply grew, the Water Works were established to ensure supply and manage the quality of the water for drinking. Decorated hand operated cast iron embosser with 40mm seal head attached. Gold and orange painted decorations extend from top edge of handle to sides of base. Functional object - SEC First Aid Box, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV)
The State Electricity Commission of Victoria 1921 to 1993 was responsible for electricity generation in Victoria and the operation of three Provincial Tramways. It had a strong safety focus for the time. This first-aid box would have been provided to work places containing first aid equipment and materials. It has been made with interior slots or dividers to hold items. Images of contents of a box that went to auction in Feb. 2025 collected.Demonstrates an SECV First Aid Box.First aid box made from sheet metal, with hinged lid, press locking clamp on the front, with a divided interior or fitting to hold items, painted white on the inside and black on the outside.
