Clive MURRAY-WHITE (20 February 1946 - ) Born Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, England Arrived Australia 1959 With an impressive career that has included sculpting marble for over 25 years Clive Murray-White has informed his at practice by studying at Brisbane Central Technical College, Guildford School of Art, United Kingdom, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and Preston Institute of Technology, Monash University. His early work used welded and cast metal objects. In the 1980s he transitioned to marble sculpture Clive Murray White was Head of Sculpture at the Monash University Churchill (now Federation University Gippsland). He established the Cowwarr Art Space with Carolyn Crossley.Marble sculpture of Hygia, the Greek goddess of health and healing. Daughter of Asciepius the God of Medicine, Hygeia symbolises the preservation of good heallth and prevention of illness. LU 600 the first of the Small Town Units, designed and built by the Country Fire Authority. (CFA) The late Wally Titheridge, Chief Mechancal Officer of the Country Fire Brigades Board, CFBB, and its successor the CFA, stated in an interview in the early 1990's that the vehicle was designed by himself, and built by a body builder in Preston. This was the first of many hundreds of the Small Town Units, on maily Austin, but also Bedford, Leyland, and BMC Chassis. The early series trucks had a 200 gallon (900 Litre) tank, which was proving usefull, but "more is always better" , so the next series had 400 gallon (1000 litre) tanks.

Craig Tooke, formally of Yarra Trams substations advised 12/8/2020 by email to Warren Doubleday. "An interesting photo. I don’t know who the person in the photo is. More than likely the bulb in from an industrial installation such as mine etc. and not tram or train. The reason is that only Melbourne trams has Hackbridge Hewittic rectifiers that were used for traction. There was three sets of bulbs installed at West Brunswick, Deepdene and Preston. West Brunswick is definitely still in existence and probably Deepdene is still in existence as the old substation was abandoned intact and just left intact. Preston of course has gone and was removed as part of the work done at PWS. Another clue is the number 500/6 which means it was from a 500 kW – 6 bulb unit. The traction units were all in multiples of 150 kW per bulb i.e. the tramway ones were 600 kW rated. The number "40246" is the bulb serial number. Each bulb manufactured had an individual serial number. Interesting the bulbs at Brisbane Tram Museum have the following serial numbers to the ones that were at Essendon tram sub. A portrait of a former Junior Legatee, Noel Shiels who had enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force in World War 2. It was in an album of photos taken in the 1940s (mostly 1945). Research on NAA.gov.au and DVA confirms it was Noel Lindsey Sheils Service No 430062, who was born 31 March 1924 in Preston who joined the RAAF when he enlisted on 4 December 1942, he became a pilot and his rank was flying officer and was posted with the 37 Squadron. His father was James Howard Sheils Service No 158 of the 1st Bay AFA who died in May 1931 leaving his wife and 5 children. Set of two black and white photographs of tramcar 815 in Collins St at Spencer St. Tram 815 was one of 24 W5 class trams built by MMTB at Preston Workshops in 1937. Entered service Saturday 13 November 1937. In April 1984 converted to SW5. Currently stored at Newport Workshops. Funds were in aid of the Red Cross Prisoner of War Fund. Has the name of H. Nott, Hon Secretary, Tram depot Malvern. Tickets were donated to the Red Cross fund by the Proprietors of Black and White Cigarettes. Has on the rear an advertisement for the cigarette company. Carbon copy of a handwritten letter with typed copy of same, to Mr Blake from Albert Richardson dated 5th Sept. 1971. In the letter he says he enclosed a photocopy of the 'History of Victoria Hill', which he completed on behalf of the Rotary Club of South Bendigo. In response to an application to the National Trust for Classification, he received a letter from Colonel Birch and also two typewritten copies of his manuscript, properly referenced from his marginal notes. The Society had played host to the Dandenong and Preston Historical Societies and the members were pleased with what they saw on the Victoria Hill and other places. Item was pushed into a slot of a reader which then recognised the identification through the series of holes on the left hand side. Fitted with metal strips, riveted on, to enable the card to be slotted into the holder by the crew member and then withdrawn when not required.
