Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: BLACK SILK SKIRT WITH BEADED TRIM, 1880-1890's
Clothing. Full length black silk-satin skirt, with a 4-pleat cummerbund waist sash - 10 cms deep. Two x 10 cm wide ''falls'' of satin, angled at the lower edge fall from the plackett left side, and are 51 cm long and 63 cm long at their peak. Two panels of the skirt fabric, 81 cm long and 23 cm wide are attached from the waistline at the centre front and centre back. Collett, who was Tramway Superintendent at Ballarat from 1910 to 1922. Letter on BTM Letterhead. Letter gives details of references to Mr. Collett - 1912 Arbitration Hearings, and the 1922 strike. Single sheet colour calendar for 1983, published by the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), successors to the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board. Large portion of the calendar features the changeover from the MMTB to the MTA - eg green colours replacing the orange. Also on the base of the cartoon by Augustine is a number of caricatures of well known MMTB/MTA personnel. On top of the calendar has the letters M&MTB being demolished and those of the MTA being positioned. Printed on heavy cartridge paper. Sample length (260mm long) of 107mm2 trolley wire supplied by Metal Manufacturers (Port Kembla Wire and Rod) - November 1996, Used in ceremony of 26/11/1996 when Victorian Minister of Transport, Alan Brown handed over the Trolley Wire (2km) to Museum. Functional Object - Trolley Wire Sample, Trolley Ear
Short ear (3 screw) with worn trolley wire bent at either end. Ear - brass, with clamp on fitting used to hold trolley wire in position and steel bolt, steel spring washer. Trolley wire cut about 40mm on either side. One side has pulled out of ear - has no groove on one side. Shows how ear has worn while in service. Screws could not be removed while attached to wire.
