Made by students and staff at the School of Mines Ballarat in 1983 and donated to the then fledgling ATCV. Photo attached shows staff Robert Brouwers and Gayle Spicer accepting the donation.........The boxes have been in the safe keeping of Terry Peacock at the Adelaide CVA office.....terry recalls that the only injury treated using the box he recalls was when the box slammed forward when the bus stopped abruptly and hit his head...Basic safety was important from the very first projects. The boomerang commemorates the successful 1967 election campaign of Russell Stokes, MLA for Evelyn 1958-1973. It was manufactured by his family's firm, Stokes Australasia Limited. Russell Stokes' home was 'Lubra Bend', Yarra Glen.The boomerang is both a souvenir of an election campaign by a long-serving member of the Parliament of Victoria and an example of metal and enamel work by a Ringwood company that is now over 150 years old. K class locos were first built in the 1920's This one was built in 1941 and was the 20th loco to be built. It entered service on the 28th/7/1941 and was withdrawn from service on the 1/10/1970. It is believed to have travelled a total of 421,708 miles or 674,733 km during its 29 year working life.This is a K class steam locomotive, No. 169. Wheel configuration: 2-8-0, gauge: 5'3" (1600mm) The K 169 was the 20th (of 53) to be built. It is black in colour with red pin stripping down the side.K169 in white lettering on the sides and the front.

From 1988 to 2021, Legacy held a public speaking contest for young secondary school students. It was initially called the Junior Plain English Speaking Award (JPESA) and later called Legacy Junior Public Speaking Award (LJPSA). Schools were eligible to send along up to 4 representatives to compete in a preliminary round. Participants gave a four minute prepared speech and a two minute impromptu response to a topic. This photo shows a group of finalists in front of the yellow Legacy flag. The label says " Dr Ray Maddocks, Co-ordinator of the JPESA, with the nine finalists. The standard was once again excellent and Melbourne Legacy is looking forward to an equally successful year in 1990. The following was taken from a programme in 1996: "The Award aim is to promote enhanced oral communication skills for 12-14 year old students and to help young people appreciate the ideals of Legacy - voluntary service, caring and comradeship - and the need for remembrance. It began in 1988 in the Melbourne area with the support of the Ministry of Education and The Plain English Foundation. Entries have grown from 24 in the 1988 competition to over 300 in schools across the State, plus greater numbers participating in the process of selecting four contestants from each school. In 1995, a successful Interstate Championship was held with contestants from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. On 11 November 1996 the first National final was held with contestants from six states." An early black and white photograph taken at the entrance to "The Hermitage" in Narbethong in Victoria.An early black and white photograph taken at the entrance to "The Hermitage" in Narbethong in Victoria. "The Hermitage" was built by photographer John William Lindt as a home and guesthouse in 1894. John Lindt had previously photographed the mountain scenery of the Black Spur and purchased 71 acres and subseqently built his home and guesthouse from where he continued his career. "The Hermitage had a garden designed by John Lindt's friend, Ferdinand von Mueller, who was at one stage the Director of the Melbourne Botanic Gardens. The garden featured New Guinea tree houses from which John Lindt made frequent panoramas of his property and the surrounding forest of towering mountain ash. Aged 81 Lindt died of heart failure during disastrous bushfires on 19 February 1926 at the Hermitage. N.J. Caire had a great love for the area in and surrounding Marysville and in the late 1800's took many photographs of Marysville and its surrounds. N.J. Caire was born in 1837 in Guernsey. He arrived in Adelaide about 1860 along with his parents who encouraged his early interest in photography. He opened a studio in Adelaide in 1867 after traveling extensively throughout the Gippsland taking photographs. After marrying in 1870 he moved to Talbot in Victoria until 1876 when he opened a studio in the Royal Arcade in Melbourne. After 1885 N.J. Caire gave up his city work and made his home in South Yarra and devoted the rest of his life to outdoor photography, specializing in the bush, the gullies and the mountains of south-eastern Victoria.
