The bag has a zipper closure, a small 5 cm long beaded loop, attaches to the zipper for ease of opening and closing. Lined with cream satin, there is an 11 cm long pocket in one side, containing a small mirror (7.5 cm x 5 cms). A small piece of confetti inside may, indicate that this bag was used at Aileen and John's marriage. Object. On the top outside of lid are the initials J.E.H. in 1.3 cm high gold lettering. This case belonged to John Frederick Harper. Machine stitched, with nickel fittings-two fasteners with a fitted lock, and nickel protectors on the four corners of the lid, and the body of the case. The lid is lined with blue silk, and also has a gathered silk pocket, with an elastic gathered top. Clothing, cream coloured double layer child's silk cape. Inner cape has 13 cm one piece circular yolk with 7 cm turned over collar. Casing around neck has 4 cm draw string ribbon threaded through. Inner cape is made from one piece of fabric with inverted V shaped insert on LHS extending 40 cm from edge of yoke. Inner cape is fully lined with cotton fabric. Two extra satin lining panels extend from yolk to hem inside both front openings.(7 cm widening to 28 cm at hem). Outer cape is made from one piece of fabric falling 57 cm from the collar. Outer cape is fully lined with cotton fabric with additional satin lining panels inside front openings from neckline to hem ( 8 cm at neck to 30 cm at hem). Both layers have decorative silk embroidery of floral patterns. Outer cape pattern extends down both sides of front opening and continues above the hem line around the cape. The embroidery on the inner cape extends from the lower edges of the front openings and continues above the hem around the cape. Clothing, khaki woollen WW2 army uniform jacket. Single breasted with four brown metal AMF buttons (2 cm). Two breast pockets, (16 X 18 cm) with fold over tabs. All button tabs fastened with 1.5 cm metal buttons. Long sleeves with stitched down cuffs with V shaped peak on upper side. Both sleeves lined with cream and blue striped cotton fabric. 30 cm split at centre back from hem. Button down epaulettes on each shoulder with three captain's pips and two black stripes. Cloth badges on top of each sleeve. 1. Navy and red unit colour, (3 cm X 2.5 cm). 2. Light green, brown and blue colour (5 X 5 cm) (unknown). 2.5 X 2.5 cm square metal badges on each corner at front of collar. 5.5 cm wide cloth belt with metal buckle. A slight train at the back hemline, and two V shaped flaps-one either side of the back opening, which probably accommodated bussell-like padding. The skirt is tightly gathered at the back to facilitate the padding. Front of skirt is flat, with a little easing of gathers. Pocket inside right hand side seam. A newspaper cutting "Past Lives Again" - The past will live again when the Bendigo and District branch of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria holds its Golden Days Exhibition at the Memorial Hall Next Friday, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. many treasures of yesteryear have been resurrected from attics and storage chests. Among these the glorious royal blue silk brocade gown worn by Jennifer Wyatt. the frock was brought out from England more than 110 years ago by Mrs. Jonathan Harris of Axedale (her husband was the founder of the Hustlers' line of reefs in Bendigo). Leather, oval shaped hat box (in which is stored a men's silk top hat - 11400.834). Lined in blue velvet, and blue silk. Looped handle, 29cm long, attached with 2.5cm circular metal studs - possibly brass. An oval shaped insert, lined with blue velvet and silk, hold the inverted top hat. This hat was owned by John Sargood ( refer enclosed notes) whose initials are marked on trhe hat-box - J.S. - two cms high. An internal strap of black fabric, has a leather tab at one end with a metal key shaped fastener. Unfortunately the other end is broken off. This strap would hold the hat in the cavity. An outer leather strap, 4cm wide passes over the lid, and fastens at a 6.5cm diameter, circular metal disk with key lock. End of this strap is also broken - a piece of leather is inside the hat box.
