Photograph - Digital Photograph, Significant Tree: Eucalyptus, Stokes Orchard Linear Park, Eucalyptus Road, Eltham, 4 September 2020
The tree is located on the eastern side of Eucalyptus Road, Eltham in the linear park which runs through the Stokes Orchard Estate, approximately 200m from Eucalyptus Road. This is the path of an old creek which originates from near Nyora Road and Stokes Place. Aerial photography taken in November 1931 shows several reasonably well-developed trees, possibly of 20 to 30 years of age beside the water course. The water course and trees were retained in the orchard and these old trees remain standing as of 2024. However, in 2023 Council received a complaint regarding a potential risk with the largest tree even though it had not been known to cause any issue over recent decades but given the public risk concern, Council conducted an assessment and cut it down leaving approximately 10m of the trunk still standing. The major limbs were left 'scattered' around the base for wildlife habitat. The tree remains alive and is now rapidly becoming a tall bushy shrub. The age of the tree is in in excess of 125 years.stokes orchard estate, significant tree, eucalyptus road, eltham, eucalyptus tree -

Photograph, Doug Orford, Eltham Courthouse, 730 Main Road, Eltham, 1985, 1985
This building is a fine example of a very early small brick country court house which retains its furnishings and has important associations with the early history of the Eltham township. It was used for Eltham Road Board meetings in the 1860s and later to provide additional school accommodation. It is the oldest public building remaining in Eltham and forms an important group in historic and streetscape terms with the adjoining former police residence. The survival of the furnishings (of unknown origins) is of particular significance given the building's age. This building, and the former police residence beside it, were constructed as a result of a petition by five Eltham residents in 1857. The nearest police were at Heidelberg eight miles away or at the Caledonia Diggings 21 miles away. After the construction of the Court of Petty Sessions at Eltham in 1859-60 (which was designed by the Public Works Department and built by a Mr Duncan for a cost of 536 pounds), it was used for a variety of purposes. Eltham Road Board meetings were held there until 1868 when the board was transferred to Kangaroo Ground and as the Road Board Secretary's office, until this was transferred to Wingrove Cottage in 1867. It was used as an overflow for the Dalton Street School in 1875. According to National Trust records, the Eltham Court House is a relatively rare building type. There are only six other known examples of similar small brick country court houses in the state which have small projecting entry porches and a gabled form. Diamond Valley Leader, September 5, 2018, p4. MONTMORENCY $1.6mil station unveiled A REVAMPED Montmorency ambulance station has been unveiled. State Ambulance Services Minister Jill Hennessy and Eltham State Labor MP Vicki Ward revealed the $1.6 million complex at the corner of Grand Boulevard and Apex Way in Montmorency. It replaces the 50-year-old station and now includes four ambulance bays, four rest and recline rooms, a large training room and offstreet parking for staff. “The community campaigned long and hard for this new ambulance station and I’m delighted to have stood with them all the way,” Ms Ward said. The latest quarterly performance data showed 90.4 per cent of ambulances in Banyule arrived within 15 minutes of Code 1 emergencies — up from 89.2 per cent three months earlier. Ms Hennessy said paramedics had worked in “cramped” facilities. “We’ve fixed that,” she said.55 born digital imagesambulance victoria ceo, apex way, apex-diamond valley ambulance station, eltham ambulance station, eltham apex club, jill hennessey, montmorency, mp for eltham, state ambulance services minister, tony walker, vicki ward
