Photograph of W7 1024 decorated and illuminated for the Centenary of Kew. See March 1961 Electric Traction - "W7 1024 was decorated and illuminated for the centenary of the City of Kew, and was scheduled to run between December 4 and December 16, 1960, from Kew Depot on the Mont Albert and North Balwyn lines. Its term was extended to mid-January and it was still running in early February. It was similarly decorated for the centenary of the City of Fitzroy in 1958 (see illustration E.T. 10/60). Yields information about the crews on the last official tram in Ballarat at the time of the closure of the Ballarat System and some of the last tickets sold on the system.Nine No. 8c SECV tickets on block (Nos. A552391 to 99), purchased at time by Albert Isaacs - white paper, green ink with "Electricity makes life easier!" on rear, stapled to heavy cardboard with stubs of previously issued tickets remaining. Signed on both sides. Alan Bradley - advised 2/1996 Herb Knight - driver and Lew Walker - Conductor as crew on "Last Tram" No. 40 ex Sebastopol (official records). Yields information about the operation of Ballarat tram No. 36 in Melbourne to promote Ballarat after the closure of the SEC system.1060 - Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, 15/9/1971 of the loading of tram 36 for running in Melbourne the previous day. Two photos (btm1060i1) shows Stan Lakey and Harry Van Oorschot jacking up the front of the tram and second photo (btm1060i2) shows Doug Wiseman and Bob Prentice on the main body jacks. Caption notes the transport of the tram to Melbourne for a week, advertising the Begonia Festival, Sovereign Hill and the Royal South St. competitions. The tram derailed at the intersection of Sturt ...SEC Tram 17 and a former bus used as a food vendor stand, that has finished up in the front of S.E. Dickins Pty Ltd. (Grocers) store 1/10/1949. The tram derailed at the intersection of Sturt and Grenville St. collided with the bus and pushed it into the front of the store. Many people standing around the incident, including two trammies in front of the tram. Thought to be a Ballarat Courier Photograph. Wal Jack's caption advises the Bedford van was a doughnut kitchen. 1020.1 - added 3/06/2006 - small newspaper cutting with the same photo and a caption "While the driver was picking up lunch at Ashkar's pie shop, his tram ploughed into Dickin's grocery, on the present site of Norwich Plaza". 2225.1 Title sheet to the "Rolling stock roster" section of a scrap book titled "Ballarat Tramways", dated 1971. Lettered in blue ball point pen and underlined in red. 2225.2 - Section titled "Single Tramcar' (Single truck trams) and detailing the use, number and where the tram was taken to, or disposed to from Ballarat following closure. Lists 16 tramcars. Trams 31 and 32 were shown as SEC Creswick Road. 31 - later to (Kaniva > Haddon > USA). Lettered in blue ink or pencil with red lining. 32 - Maryborough, then to BTM Collection. 2225.3 - Section titled "Bogie Tramcar' and detailing the use, number and where the tram was taken to, or disposed to from Ballarat following closure. Lists 10 tramcars. Lettered in blue ink or pencil with red lining. Note a number of the bogie trams have since relocated since the list was prepared. Yields information about the change over from horse to electric trams and a comparison between the two types of trams, uniforms and clothing of passengers and the way destinations were shown.Black and White photograph, assumed a copy photograph of ESCo 16 and a horse tram - at Rubicon St where Sebastopol passengers transferred between horse and electric transport. No. 16 has two uniformed men at the front and a conductor on the rear stop, two children on the front seat and a lady on the rear. A uniformed horse tram driver is standing by the front of the horse. No. 16 has the destination of Grenville St, and a large sign "Sebastopol & Rubicon St Tramways via Drummond St". The destination is on the roof of the tram, possibly indicating early 1907 - 08. Used in The Golden City and its Tramways - page 42. Text notes the photograph was donated by a Mrs. I Butler. Yields information about the loading and departure of Ballarat No. 25 to Bendigo in 1960.Reproduction of illustration of Ballarat No. 25 leaving the Wendouree Parade depot for Bendigo on 6/10/1960. As printed in Newsrail, April 1984 issue on page 111. Photo shows Yellow Express Mack prime mover GPU 328 with Ballarat Tram No. 25 loaded and leaving the depot. Tram has destination box removed. Tram has Eureka and SEC roof ads on side of tram, and is showing destination of Sturt St. West, indicating possibly soon after recommissioning in 1977. Small copy added 10/10/2019.
