John Fletcher (1857-19/10/1903) was a shift boss at the Hustler's Mine. Formerly from Sebastian, he came to Bendigo in 1899. He married Eliz. Hinchcliff in 1881 and they lived in Job's Gully. He was a member of the Bendigo Miner's Association and often subscribed to the Bendigo Independent newspaper, which sent Mrs Fletcher a gift of 25 pounds in appreciation. He was killed in a mining accident at Hustler's Mine.Paper certificate mounted on card presented to Mrs Fletcher and family from Hustlers No. 1 mine, upon the death of John Fletcher in a mine accident. Alfred Donald Senior studied Electrical Engineering at the Ballarat Schoo of Mines (SMB) between 1927-33. He worked as an Instructor in Electric Welding at SMB between 1932 and 1967 receiving a certificate of Electrical Engineering, and greatly enjoyed his association with SMB as a student and instructor. Senior was an A. Grade Electrical Mechanic (A.M.I.E.I.s Vic and NSW) and was employed at the SEC Elec. Supply Co of Vic 1927-1970. He became Chief Electrical Inspector for the Mid-Western region.Hand embroidered pocket, framed in timber behind glass. The blazer pocket belonged to A.D. Malleys Ltd was established in about 1890 by Francis Malley (1863-1932). This firm was located in the Sydney suburb of Alexandria, in McEvoy Street. They manufactured items for use in the dairy industry, as well as for hardware related to building and plumbing. Many of the Malley dairy products were sold under the "Sunrise" name. Malley retired in 1912. In 1931 there were branches at Parramatta, Hurstville & North Sydney. An early item made by an Australian manufacturer of dairy equipment in Australia specifically for the local market. This is an early example of an endotracheal tube (c.1932) invented by Ivan Magill. The shattered faces and jaws of wounded soldiers presented real difficulties for the administration of anaesthesia. Ivan Magill and Stanley Rowbotham developed endotracheal tubes for these procedures that were more efficient and practical than the earlier insufflation catheters.The attached safety pin was used to prevent the loss of the tube down the patient's nose. Orange/brown rubber tubing with a bevelled edge at one end a safety pin stuck through the other end. This tube was used for nasal endotracheal intubation.Printed in black ink on tube: NO. 5 NASAL A. In the early days meetings were held at places like the Phairs Hotel, and Victoria Coffee Palace. Nancy (Nan) Josephine Pitt Withers was born 17 May 1897 at Heidelberg. She was the daughter of artist Walter Withers and Fanny (nee Flinn). Walter Withers and his family moved from Heidelberg to Eltham in 1903 where he set up his studio in Southernwood at the corner of Brougham and Bolton streets, Eltham. St Katherine's Church St Helena was built by Major Anthony Beale pioneer settler of the area, and named after his wife. The original church was damaged by fire in February 1957 and rebuilt shortly after. The accompanying article describes the "quaint old village of Greensborough" and an excursion to the churchyard at St Helena. Refer to article by Eileen Fortescue in The Argus Newspaper Saturday 19/3/1932 Page 8.These photos are significant as they were taken before the fire and there are few photographs of the original church.
