He was NR 4886 Suffolk Regiment DOB c1878. POB White Chapel, London. Served 1899-1902 Cape Colony, Colesberg, Transvaal - with the Mounted Infantry. WW1 - DOE 11 Dec 15, Middlesex Regiment 5 Bm. (A Reserve Bn). Discharged from Middlesex 19 Apr 1916. M.U. Number 1710 Pte. The British I.W.M. also shows he served in the Royal Field Artillery in WW1. That info is not available. On Wednesday 23 Jan 1946 British aircraft carriers HMS Indefatigable, HMS Implacable and HMS Glory escorted by destroyers HMS Tuscan and HMS Armada arrived in Melbourne. Indefatigable berthed at outer west Station Pier, Glory at inner east and Implacable at outer east. This passport belonged to Alexander Swinton, a member of a prominent family in Warrnambool. The passport shows that he travelled extensively in Europe, U.S.A. and Central and South America. Alex Swinton’s forebears, William and Ann Swinton came to Warrnambool in 1854 and William Swinton opened a shop selling hardware, china and glassware in Timor Street Warrnambool in 1865. The Swinton businesses expanded in the 19th and 20th centuries and a Swinton furnishing store still exists today, making this store one of the oldest family businesses in Australia. Alexander Swinton (1907-1986) was the son of George and Florence Swinton of Merri Crescent Warrnambool. He attended Warrnambool Technical School in the early 1920s.This box is of interest as a memento of Alexander Swinton, a member of a prominent Warrnambool family. It also shows the type of passport issued to Australian citizens in the 1950s and 60s. These are two passport booklets joined together with white tape. Each has 32 pages and the booklet contains two black and white photographs, personal information (both printed and written), stamps and printed information from various countries and two inserted certificates. A meat grinder or mincer was used for mincing or fine chopping of raw or cooked meat, fish, vegetables or similar food. It replaced tools like a mincing knife.A vintage cast iron mincer with a wooden handle attached to the long cast iron handle. It can be screwed to a table or bench, secured tightly by a two pronged claws. It has a funnel at the top for the meat to be pushed into the mechanism which when the handle is turned operates the inner mechanism which forces the minced meat out through a side opening.
