Bendigo Advertiser "The way we were" from Wednesday, October 6, 2004. A full life: this photograph is of Annie Carr, born in 1849 in New Zealand. Her parents were William Carr, a blacksmith from London and Jane Jamieson of Kilbirnie, Scotland. She arrived in Sandhurst in June, 1854 with her parents and her sister Sarah. Sarah drowned in October 1854, in a waterhole at Maiden Gully. Annie married Louis Searle in 1871 and went on to have 14 children. Ceremonial object - JOHN FREDERICK HARPER COLLECTION: CEREMONIAL SASH, 1950-1990's
Object. Blue, damask weave fabric sash, 240 ms long(including fringing) woven with a rose design, and with a .8 cm wide white satin-finish stripe, just inside the side edges. A gold type metallic fringing, 5 cms deep, finishes each end. A woven panel just off centre of the sash, includes eleven figures, including children, three shields, a globe hand and heart. Radiating from the words- FRIENDSHIP LOVE AND TRUTH is an eye like shape, radiating light. At the lower edge of the panel, woven into the fabric are the words, MANCHESTER UNITY of the INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS. Above the woven panel is an ornate metal star, 10 cm x 10 cm, with eight points, and made from silver metal sequins and coiled wirework. Centre of the star is padded to a height of 1 cm, covered in satin, sequins and wirework in a circular shape. A 7 cm long metal tassell hangs from the lower edge of star. A length of silk ribbon, 1.2 cm wide is attached to the lower edge of the sash, perhaps to tie and hold the sash in position when being worn.organisation, masonic lodge, ceremonial sash -

Full length centre front panel of embroidered lace fabric with two panels of horizontal pintucks. Lower edge of centre panel ends with two layers of broiderie lace ( 9cm and 17 cm). vertical edges of centre panel trimmed with 5 cm strip of lace. Centre lace panel widens from 8 cm at waist to 54 cm at hem. Hem of back and sides is trimmed with one layer of 9 cm broiderie lace below a 2.5 cm tuck. Double layer lace to form short cap sleeves. Clothing - MCGOWAN COLLECTION: CHILD'S CAPE, Late 19 th Century
Clothing, cream coloured double layer child's silk cape. Inner cape has 13 cm one piece circular yolk with 7 cm turned over collar. Casing around neck has 4 cm draw string ribbon threaded through. Inner cape is made from one piece of fabric with inverted V shaped insert on LHS extending 40 cm from edge of yoke. Inner cape is fully lined with cotton fabric. Two extra satin lining panels extend from yolk to hem inside both front openings.(7 cm widening to 28 cm at hem). Outer cape is made from one piece of fabric falling 57 cm from the collar. Outer cape is fully lined with cotton fabric with additional satin lining panels inside front openings from neckline to hem ( 8 cm at neck to 30 cm at hem). Both layers have decorative silk embroidery of floral patterns. Outer cape pattern extends down both sides of front opening and continues above the hem line around the cape. The embroidery on the inner cape extends from the lower edges of the front openings and continues above the hem around the cape. Clothing - HOSKING AND HUNKIN COLLECTION: TODDLERS NIGHTGOWN, 1880
Clothing. Fine white cotton lawn nightgown. Round neck, with back opening. 12 cm deep yoke, and tiny cap sleeves of embroidered cotton. A V shaped panel of embroidered cotton at the centre front of the yoke. A drawstring in a casing fastens at the back neckline. A tiny .75 cm button, fastens the back yoke. Nightgown is machine stitched, with some hand stitched decorative stitching. The long skirt has two bands of narrow tucks-one tuck of 1.04 cm and six bands of .04 cm. This is edged with a band of hand stitched embroidery. This band of tucking is repeated, and edged with a 6 cm wide band of eyelet embroidery. This panel is repeated with the lower edge of embroidered cotton finished with a scalloped shaped edge. A scalloped braid edges the neckline. Skirt is two-tiered-top tier very finely gathered to yoke is 15 cm deep. Lower tier is 71 cm deep.costume, children's, toddlers nightgown. -
