This book was used by Orbost Cemetery Trust to record letters written especially to provide a running account of the trust's activities. Although the cemetery was officially gazetted in November, 1891, it seemed certain that burials had taken place before that time. The early trusts were diligent in their record keeping and visionary in their planning.The original Trust members approved by the Public Health Department included C. N. Henderson, E. Watt (Ernest), D. Munro (Donald), M. R. Coote (Massy) and James Cameron (recorded at the first meeting of the Trust dated 29th May 1891. The first mention of a Mr. C. Richardson wasn’t until 25th February 1916 whilst the cemetery was under the control of the Orbost Shire Council with select councillors on the committee. Orbost Cemetery is an important part of Orbost's history. Photograph shows members of the Bubb family cutting ironbark logs in the Anglesea forest for their sawmill. The sawmill was established after WW2 to provide work for his sons. The sons who worked at the mill were Arthur, Harold (aka Jimmy), and Robert all of whom are buried at Bellbrae cemetery. The older fenced-off grave without a headstone is that of Cornelius Ford who had a private funeral when he was buried in Sunbury Cemetery on 7 December 1908, aged seventy-one. He is buried in Section H, plots 1 - 4. The registrar was McMahon and the undertaker was Trask. Cornelius Trask conducted a butcher's business in Brook Street and O'Shanassy Street. George and Anne Evans settled in Sunbury in 1836 after migrating to Van Diemens Land from Plymouth in 1825. He took upland along the Jacksons Creek and built his Emu Bottom Homestead. He married Anne, who was forty years younger than him on 11 May 1843 and they had six children. He and his wife Anne are buried in Melbourne General Cemetery in Compartment 'H'.George died on 26 August 1876 and Anne died on 12 January 1893. George Evans was a one of the first Europeans to take up land in the the area that was originally known as Buttlejork ( Batterjork) in the area now known as Sunbury. George was the first soldier from the Shire of Eltham to be killed in the Second World War. He was engaged to Miss Jean Simonson of Montmorency. Sapper George Ernest Castledine (1914-1941), son of Arthur Frederick (dec.) and Annie Castledine, enlisted 23 January 1940 at Lower Plenty and was assigned to the 2/2 Field Company. Thomas Harvey (16/8/1842-30/6/1912) was born in Cornwall. He married Eliza Williams (23/3/1841-12/7/1923) on 6/12/1865. The lived in Clarke Street, Harveyville.
