AGL - Bogong Information Centre
AGL took over the operation of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme and constructed the 'Bogong Power Development Project. This involved the construction of a new underground Hydro Electric Power Station on AGL Hydro's Junction Dam regulating pondage near Bogong village in Vctoria's High country. Construction commenced in 2007 and was completed by the end of 2009The Bogong Power Development Project was important to Victoria as hydro power was environmentally friendly. It was important to convey this to the population by way of educating them on the understanding of how it worked and its benefits to providing power to Victoria and beyond.Collection of photos, folders and papers used at the Bogong Information Centre to inform the public on the operation of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. The mill was first established at this time, and the photo shows the interior after tooling up but prior to the mill actually commencing operation. This photo is one of 31 in total and shows the area and machines used for blending (the mixing of various fibres to produce the required quantity of yarn). The donor worked at the Valley Mill for many years. The SECV produced a magazine from the 1930s describing each of their locations where their employees were working. Bogong and Mt Beauty were the towns where the workers on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme lived as well as in camps on the Bogong High Plains. The garment and cap were made by Peg West for Robert. Peg was a former member of the historical society who lived at 10 Wattle Valley Road, Mitcham (1931 - 2009). She knitted many garments for family and friends. The wool was purchased by Barbara Gardiner for the jumper and cap for Robert.Man's dark grey with multi-coloured fleck wool hand knitted ribbed jumper and matching cap. The rib pattern is two knit two purl stitches. The garment is long sleeved with cuffs and a polo neck collar.
