Fernshaw was a rural township 63 km north-east of Melbourne and 10 km north-east of Healesville. Originally published in The Leader, Nov. 2nd, 1929, with the title "Relics of the Old Mining days in the Queenstown District," a series of eigth numbered photographs. 'The Leader'; a weekly journal of news, politics, agriculture, literature, science and sport. Shows a man on horseback and various people stand out the front with bush land in the background. [from EDHS Newsletter No. 65, March, 1989:] ELTHAM HERITAGE WALK The Society's contribution to Heritage Week this year will be a guided walk around Eltham featuring a number of buildings and locations of historical and environmental interest. Three dates are listed as official Heritage Week events, Sundays 16th and 23rd April and Saturday 22nd. In addition, there will be a walk on Saturday 15th for Society Members. All walks will start at 1:00 p.m. in Panther Place near Shillinglaw Cottage. Each will take about four hours and the distance is about 5km. Fire at the building on 22 August 1981. The building was constructed in 1912 as a block of flats, designed and built by JRDaley, and it was renovated in the 1930s.
