Photograph: Kim Beazley, Marg Card, Karen Overington, Dianne Hadden Kim Beazley is a former diplomat, he was an ALP federal MP, deputy prime minister and leader of the opposition. Beazley was part of the Hawke/Keating cabinet and served in such roles as Minister for Defence and Minister for Finance. Dianne Hadden was an ALP member, but resigned and became an independent. She served in the Victorian Legislative Council from 1999-2006. Ms Hadden stood for the Legislative Assembly seat of Ballarat East in 2007, but was unsuccessful. Marg Card unsuccessfully contested the 1998 federal election for the seat of Ballarat. She served as a councillor and mayor at the Moorabool Shire. Karen Overington was a former welfare worker and served as a councillor and mayor (Sebastopol Borough) before she was elected to federal parliament in 1999. Karen did not contest the 2010 election. She was a cabinet minister in the second Rudd ministry and is now part of the Shadow Cabinet. Gough Whitlam was Australian Prime Minister from 1972 to 1975. The Whitlam government was a reformist government that introduced Medibank, the end of conscription, and free university education. His government was dismissed (parliament was dissolved) on 11 November 1975 by the Governor General Sir John Kerr owing to parliament's failure to pass Appropriation Bills. He contested Gillard's leadership in 2013 but subsequently lost the federal election. He left parliament after the ALP government was defeated by the Abbott Coalition. Catherine King is the federal ALP member for Ballarat and has been office since 2001. She was a cabinet minister in the second Rudd ministry and is now part of the Shadow Cabinet. He worked for the railways as an engineering employee and was long-term trade unionist (Amalgamated Engineering Union and the Australian Railways Union) and ALP member; he lived and worked in the Ballarat area. Norm was active in workplace disputes during the ALP split in 1955. He was a long time supporter of Ballarat Trades Hall. This letter was written as a result of a meeting that brought to the attention of the Junior Legacy Club that the accounting methods used by Mr Beattie for his services was unsatisfactory. Melbourne Legacy clearly wished that the accounts be quite transparent. Aaron Beattie was key in the boys classes and annual demonstrations for many years. Walter Pavey served in the Australian Army during WW1 with the 10th Australian Infantry Battalion.A record that Legacy was determined to make their accounting practices professional and transparent, even as early as 1929.Foolscap paper letter signed Walter Pavey. Negative No. N380 and black and white print made by a laser printer (stored in folder) of Ballarat No. 25 at the City Terminus, Sturt St, south side. Tram has destination of "Sebastopol" with a Bourne? Liquid Plastic (varnish) ad on the front panel of the tram. Has the Commonwealth bank in the background. Adjacent to a pole is a ESCo / SEC electrical connection / switch box on the left hand side of the tram, which is part of the power supply or distribution system. Date of photo on folder - 5/9/1959. Original negative rescanned 24/5/2020 and image file updated.
