Hand copied letters from the files of the Shire of Ballarat East and City of Ballaarat. 1 - dated 31/8/1880 asking for the concession to construct tramways in their district and one dated 19/10/1880 to the City of Ballaarat for the same purpose. Included is a letter dated 30/9/1880 from James Roberts, Supt trams to J. Smith recommending the type of car currently in use in Sydney as the "Yankee" car manufactured by Brill of Philadelphia. 2 - copy of letter dated 6/9/1880 about horse tram rails and support systems - signed by Jas R Davies.
