No more than 350,000 Belgian Victory Medals were issued. The designed was Paul Dubois , a noted Belgian sculptor.Circular bronze Medal with multi-coloured ribbon. Obverse has Victory with spread wings, standing on a Globe. Reverse has Belgian Coat of Arms in a central laurel wreath. Surrounding it are the shields of nine Allied countries.Around the medal's edge is the bilingual text " LA GRANDE GUERRE POUR LA CIVILISATION DE GROOTE OORLOG TOT DE BESHAVING ''. In 1988, as part of a Defence of Mainland Australian policy, defence of facilities of strategic importance in northern Australia were allocated to Army Reserve units. ‘A’ Squadron was allocated the defence of Tindal Air Force base located 15 KM outside Katherine in Northern Territory. Consequently the Squadron deployed on Exercise ‘Northern Explorer’ to gain first-hand knowledge of operating conditions for mounted and dismounted patrolling in the area.Colour photograph of jaggered basalt rock covering most of high country SSW of Tindal RAAF Base, Northern Territory. Quilt
The quilt was made by Ada Maud Allen, the grandmother of the donor. Mrs Allen was from a Queensland wool growing property and was a prolific wool quilter. She was noted for her quilt making and also made items such as dressing gowns. She exhibited at many country shows and with the Queensland Country Women's Association. The wool used in the quilt was from her own property. The quilt was made in the 1930s and subsequently used by Mrs Allen's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Wool quilt made by Ada Maud Allen, c.1930s. Booklet - Ski Race Yearbook 1994
This yearbook is published by the Worldloppet Ski Federation to promote the calendar for the upcoming year. The Federation was founded on 10th June 1978 in Uppsala, Sweden. The aim of Worldloppet is to promote the sport of cross-country skiing, by focussing on popular skiing through the various ski races around the world. Worldloppet currently unites 20 long-distance ski races from Europe, America, Asia and Oceania which includes 18 Full Members and 2 Associate Members. Australia is a Full Member of Worldloppet with the first Kangaroo Hoppet being held In the winter of 1991 It was a great success and has been a regular fixture on the international ski calendar ever since. It features the main 42km event as well as a 21km event and a 7km event. The Hoppet brings the Australian snowfields to an international audience.This publication is significant because it documents and promotes an event which brings international attention to Falls Creek and the surrounding region. A glossy publication outlining key events in the 1994/95 International Ski Racing Calendar. All items are included in German and English. The logo of Worldloppet is featured on the cover along with a list of events, including the Kangaroo Hoppet.
