Mt Bogong is the highest mountain in Victoria. The Staircase Spur track to its top starts at Mountain Creek Road going through forest and continuing above the snow line to grass land. Edward Claude Binns (1900-1979) was born in Swan Hill to Edward and Helen (nee Dietz) Binns. He was a salesman and lived at 17 Sternberg Street with his wife Eva Mabel (nee Court) who he married in 1926. This is a collection of five photographs taken at the Army Headquarters Survey Regiment, Fortuna Villa, Bendigo, circa 1950s to 1960s. Appearing in photo .3P is MAJ Edward Anderson MBE, who served from 1942 to 1977 and reached the rank of LTCOL. LT Frank Thorogood SB St J. served from 1960 to 1981. He reached the rank of LTCOL and was the CO of the Army Survey Regiment from 1980 to 1981. CAPT W. Greer’s service history is unknown. Appearing in photo .5P is MAJ Nolan, who served from 1939 to 1975. He was promoted to LTCOL and was the CO of the Army Headquarters Survey Regiment from 1965 to 1969. He was subsequently promoted to COL and was the Director of Military Survey from 1972 to 1975.This is a collection of five photographs taken at the Army Headquarters Survey Regiment, Fortuna Villa, Bendigo, circa 1950s to 1960s. No 33 Kingston Road is a red brick attic-style house which was built c1920. Edward Edwards (1880-1963) was a blacksmith and the first owner. The house was named 'Berwyn' (Ref: 1931 electoral roll). Edward's wife was Mary Kennedy Stewart (1873-1931). They had 7 children, all born before the family came to Surrey Hills: 1. Hazel Margaret Kennedy Edwards (1896-1966) - dressmaker in 1931 electoral roll 2. Edward Alexander Edwards (1898-1988) 3. Mary Gwendolyn Edwards(1899-1942) 4. Gladys Annie Edwards (1902-1988) - hairdresser in 1931 electoral roll 5. Clarence Edwards (1906-1988) - plumber in 1931 electoral roll 6. Alan Stewart Edwards (1909 - 1996) 7. Geoffrey Ellis Edwards (1910-1985). The property passed to Edward Henderson Redpath after Edward Edward's death. He was a mechanic. (Ref: 1963 electoral roll). He was born in Shilbottle England on 3 December 1904 and married Gladys Annie Edwards in 1932 (#8417). He served in the Australian Airforce during WW2. Thus, the property was owned by the same family for over 40 years. Edward Henderson Redpath sold the property to David Murray Flynn and Heather Rosemary Flynn of 18 Kingston Road, Surrey Hills in 1965. Associated records: 1. It is covered in a drab olive felt cloth. It has a narrow raised neck with a cork stopper. 2. Carrier water bottle. This is a narrow leather strip of about 1/2" (12.5mm) width. At the end is a canvas webbing broad strap. Width 2" (or 50mm). At the end if that extension is a small spiked wheel that rotates. The spikes are approx 3mm long. Other accessories on the spur frame are two leather straps of width 1/2" (12.5 mm) and a pivoted buckle permanently on one side of the spur frame. 2. Items in a collection relating to Edward Judd, Refer Cat No 7410 for his service details.This is a double sided water carrier (similar to a 'Mae West') It has a broad neck band of khaki webbing. it has two carriers made from khaki webbing. On the inside surface of the bags is a dark coloured canvas of finer weaving. The necks of the bags are of bakelite with a screw top also of bakelite. There is a 25 mm webbing that joins the front of the carrier L = total length 21 cms. There is a longer 25 mm webbing belt that joins the back portions. L = total length 64 cms.
