George Gervasoni was the son on Luigi and Eliza Gervasoni. He was born at Yandoit Creek, Victoria. George Gervasoni married Anne Pedretti and they lived in Daylesford, where they both died. Gold was discovered in Ballarat in 1851 when many people rushed to the diggings. A monument commemorates the centenary of the finding of gold at Poverty Point and is dedicated to the memory of pioneer miners of Ballarat. It records gold yields, nuggets and the richest recorded yields of both alluvial and quartz mines. The replica gold nugget on the monument is the `Welcome Nugget`, found in Ballarat in 1858, weighed 2,217 ounces and was sold for £10,500. The memorial, known as the Pioneer Miners’ Monument, was made to commemorate Ballarat's gold centenary. It was proposed that part of the Pioneers' Memorial Fund might be used. This fund was started with £1300 profit from the 1938 centenary celebrations. (Age (Melbourne), The monument was created by John Edward Skilbeck, a toolmaker with Ronaldson and Tippett. John Skilbeck had a deep interest in Ballarat History, and undertook much research with Bert Strange and Keith Stacpoole. Councilllor William Ernest Roff provided the copper for the memorial from scrap copper obtained during his plumbing business. The copper was reworked by John Skilbeck, and was soldered in the kitchen of his home at 14 Frank Street. John (Jack) Gervasoni was the grandson of Luigi Paolo Gervasoni of Yandoit Hills (Originally San Gallo, Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy). His father and mother, George Gervasoni and Annie (Pedretti) Gervasoni, lived for many years at 31 Albert Street, Daylesford. Jack and Mary (LaFranchi) Gervasoni then lived in the same house until their death. Mary Elizabeth LaFranchi was born in 1906 at Mount Prospect, the daughter of Alfred Andrew LaFranchi and Mary Blain. Bishops Palace was built in 1877 as the home for the first Bishop of Ballarat. The Palace was designed by Melbourne architect, Joseph Reed, of Reed and Barnes, and built by George Broom at a cost of £6,000. The property is particularly notable for its four acres of impressive heritage-listed gardens. Bishops Palace was built in 1877 as the home for the first Catholic Bishop of Ballarat. Designed by Melbourne architect, Joseph Reed, of Reed and Barnes, it was built by George Broom at a cost of £6,000. Reed and Barnes also designed Melbourne’s State Library, Ripponlea Estate and the Melbourne Royal Exhibition Building. The original heritage-listed gold lead stencilled paintwork that can be seen in the front entry and on the staircase walls at Bishops Palace was replicated in the Royal Exhibition Building. The original property was 140 squares set on 11 acres of gardens and took up an entire block of Sturt Street. This was on scale with the importance of Ballarat as a gold-mining centre at the time. Bishop's Palace is of architectural, aesthetic and historical significance to the State of Victoria. The two-storey bluestone mansion is an impressive example of 19th-century Gothic architecture with an unusual design. It retains many of its original features, including lead stencilled paintwork, cornices, ceiling roses, fixtures and fittings. Since sold by the Catholic Church the Bishops Palace has undergone a number of transformations in its lifetime, from the home of the first Bishop to a private residence, and today, as a luxurious accommodation, wedding and events venue. The grounds were subdivided over the years, and the property is now surrounded by four of the original 11 acres of gardens.
