This Harmsworth Atlas and Gazetteer was inherited by one of the donors, a gift from her father who was Tasmanian.Large hard covered book with maps, charts and tables. The cover is green linen with green leather, gilt trimmed corners and decorative spine, It includes 500 maps and diagrams in colour, with commercial statistics and gazetteer index of 105,000 names. Jan 1908. Also inserted between the pages of the book were 2 folded sheets of waxed paper, each with carefully placed flowers pressed between them; native orchids and wattle. For many years Legacy was invited to bring junior legatees to Government House for for an enjoyable Legacy Christmas party. There were entertainers, carousels and often a train ride. And the joy of a Christmas present for each child. This photo shows three junior legatees with Christmas presents in gift bags, some of the items appear hand made. Alfred Gurney-Goldsmith. Gives the design details of the device or fitting known as a trolley wire ear that holds a tramway copper trolley wire in position. Notes that the drawing was traced in 1958 from a MMTB drawing.Yields information about the design of trolley wire fittings and how they were fabricated. Interesting that the drawing is dated 15-8-1958, given that on 1-3-1958 the last street tramways operated by the Victorian Railways closed. George Rogers was the brother of the donor and the son of Dorothy Rogers.This work forms part of the collection assembled by the historian Dorothy Rogers, that was donated to the Kew Historical Society by her son John Rogers in 2015. The manuscripts, photographs, maps, and documents were sourced by her from both family and local collections or produced as references for her print publications. Many were directly used by Rogers in writing ‘Lovely Old Homes of Kew’ (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or the numerous articles on local history that she produced for suburban newspapers. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand. The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s.
